You're The Parent

Quote From: boynemamma

This is interesting to me.    first of all I would find out any laws that have to do with keeping children with handicaps.  Make sure that you have read all your parental rights I have found that has helped me in writing my kids' IEPs.  Most definitely ask for a new IEP.  They have to provide one when ever you want a new one or one re defined. And I would write and talk about if he is belatedly late what a appropriate punishment would be for him.  So that he is not except from being held accountable but not so overwhelmed that it consumes him.  I hope all goes well Boynemamma
My son has Down Syndrome. When he was born my sister called and she told me that from here on out I had to become a fighter. She has a daughter with cerebal palsey. I was blessed to have someone in my family that had allready been through the process. You are your childs voice. If you are the slightest timid the school system will eat you alive. You need to stand for what your child needs, wheather it's to have 5 bathroom breaks, speach every day, assistance onto the bus. WHatever you feel they need to make them more comfortable speak your mind. In the end you will earn respect from the school staff because they will see how much your willing to be involved in your childs education needs.  I pray this helps you.
