I have a husban who is bipolar, and were trying to help it with foods and God. Any one have any ideas on this?
Like Dr. Phil would ask:  How's that working for you?  In my opinion your going to need the help with medication and talk therapy.  God created the docs and medicians that help us.  Prayer and God can help you cope along the way, but studies reflect that medication is a primary tool.

I have to agree with Faith's response. Studies have shown that prayer and faith can do amazing things and in the case of mental illness when used in accordance with therapy and meds. The results could be very good indeed. I know for some the thought of meds and taking them for life is a very not fun thing for them. My question is that if you had diabetes would you pray only or pray and add insulin. I would the same questions for heart disease, or any other illness that requires daily meds as a regiment to a healthier life. If there is another reason why meds and therapy are not being sought then perhaps that is what needs to be addressed more so.

Bipolar disorder is a serious illness and like other serious illnesses it needs to be treated. Spirituality and a healthy diet can help, of course, but they are not enough on their own. If your husband had any other illness - would you not seek medical treatment? If so, know that this is not different.

healthier  foods  and  god  is  great,  but  bipolar  centers  mostly  in  the  brain,  i  had  to  stop  caffeine  and  sugar  being  bipolar  that  is  2 things  that  make  our  panic,  anxiety  worse  and  effects  our  sleep.  medicine  is  a  big  answer  but  not  100  percent  it  helps  but  depending  on the degree  which  a  proffesional  doctor  that  deals  with  bipolar  can  help,  if  you  do  not  like  or  trust  your  doctor  get  another  one.  this  will  be  a  life  long  on  and  off  problem ,  good  days  and  not  so  good,  and  the  family  members  need  to  get  emotional  help  as  well.  so  god  understands  that,  seek  the  help  you  need,  stop  caffeine,  sugar intake,   get  plenty  of  rest,  and  ask  your  creator  to  leed you  to  health  proffesionals,  god  does  miracles  but  sometimes  he  does'nt   and  he  wants  you  to  help  yourself.  have  a  hopeful  day.
