I am also bipolar but am by all accounts a good and loving mother. If she is, she needs help. She should get it but not necessarily be institutionalized. I am somewhat appalled that you feel that it is the only answer. I don't think she is bipolar but rather is suffering from postpartum deppression and doesn't feel that she can trust those around her.
