11/02 Teacher Sex Scandal, Pt. 2

Quote From: drvndrm

I am always amazed how willing people are to place their trust in any authority figure.  I had high school teachers who were abusive to their own children and any student in their classes they knew they could get away with being a bully to, how easy it is for a teacher to target the kids in their classes that parents don't have any financial resources, or are so mired in their own problems they are oblivious to the abuse their kids get at school.  I attended a small rural high school in Oklahoma and had a teacher single me out for no other reason than she was a bully and my only parent was mentally ill and frequently hospitalized for mental illness.  I knew if I said anything, I would have found myself in a foster home.  She verbally threatened me with being corporally punished and then expelled because I had stood up to her for calling me a liar in front of my classmates.  I was so upset my nose started bleeding and I had to be taken to the local clinic where the doctor advised  I not be allowed to return to my class.  I received a full semesters credit for a math class, but spent a good part of that semester in woodworking.  Other teachers who were trying to get me to calm down so I wouldn't lose so much blood had to ask this person to leave the restroom because she followed me in and kept threatening me while I had my face in a sink bleeding profusely.  Don't tell me about how teachers deserve our respect, they have to earn it like everyone else.  I can easily imagine a teacher taking advantage of a student for lust, money, power or any other reason

There are bad apples all around us. Doctors that make mistakes; lawyers that find loop holes for unlawful people; builders that cut corners; etc., etc. Lets say the story is true and the teacher was a bully. I am so sorry, really sorry for your experience. You say other teachers were helping you. So that is one that was 'horrible' and more than one that was helpful. But lets bash all teachers character because they are 'teachers'.

Go spend time in a classroom...an extended time and see how long you would last. Teachers are there because they care about students learning and have a talent to reach the age child they teach. Not many outside people would last and that is one reason there is a teacher shortage. Another reason may be because they are an easy target for meanspirited people to use.

Those young men suffered no hardships. They went on with college or jobs. The teacher only has her word....unless like the being in two places breaks their story.

She may have had bad judgement when trying to make a connection with teenagers. I commend her for not taking what the district offered. That took guts. I think there is something going on in that community that she found herself in the middle of.

Your school experiences sound like something out of a Charles Dickens novel.  The teacher on the Dr. Phil show, in my opinion, has not been abusive with her students.  Yet she has been villified by the entire community and school system.   I believe she was unjustly targeted by these high school students and the facts, so far, seem to bear this out.  Joelle has been the one abused, not the other way around.

It seems to me that you are holding onto alot of stuff. As Dr. Phil says "What are you gaining by holding onto this?"

Anyone can claim "I'm a victim" but it takes a much stronger person to move past it. Before you go and say I don't understand being bullied...I'll just say you are wrong. My childhood was hell but, I have dealt with it and moved on. I left the hurt little girl behind. It feels great. You should try it.

Part of the problem with society today is that kids don't have a healthy respect for anyone, not their parents, not their teachers, not police. I say a bit of fear and respect are important. Otherwise we will all be run over by "poor me" cry babies with attitudes.

to be honest  I know now its not the rite thing but as a teenager I would have been gratful if one or more of my teachers would have taught me about the birds and the bees  asspecially a certain few. as far as trusting anyone you better take a second thought.I am a father of one daughter I would cherish her with my life and I love her with all my heart.and would forgive her for anything but I realize as we go trough life we all make choices good and bad. Are we big enogh to say im sorry. do we have enough love for one another to say and mean you are forgiven. I may be wrong but I just cant imagine a teenage boy that wasin his half rite mind and desired the female anatimy would complain about a woman teacher asspecially a good looking one having sex with him. makes me wonder if hes not mad because she didnt give him any.

I understand and I completely agree. The fact that people are dismissing your experience tells me that this is a problem that is swept under the rug.
