I'm going to come across as very hateful, but I must express how I feel. The women who claim to be "suffering" from this "disease" have way to much time on their hands.  I bet that there are no women in the third world countries with this "disease"...why because they don't look down at the only food they are going to have for the next week and say .."well I would eat this, but I'm so ugly" They have more problems then beauty, they don't have access to water let alone a mirror!!  The women on this show need to get a grip on what real problems are and stop being so vain as to think that being attractive is the ultimate form of happiness. The bottom line is that there is a spiritual void that these women are trying to fill with whining and surgery. I'm sorry that this is harsh but its the truth. Sympathy no...hopeful yes.

I'm not too sure that hateful would be the appropriate word as far as how you come across on this message board.  Ignorant seems to fit exactly what you have written!  How much research have you done on the subject of BDD in third world countries or on BDD period?  BDD has nothing whatsoever to do with vanity.  Individuals suffering from BDD do in fact know deep down that being beautiful will not bring them happiness.  If you do a bit of research on the disorder you'll note that none of the people suffering from BDD want to be beautiful...they just want to look at most normal and not disfigured.  BDD is not a choice, eating disorders are not choices!  BDD is a very complicated disorder that is just now beginning to be more and more understood.  I really hope that the next time you post you'll do some research before posting.
