Quote From: niecyd84I'm a high school teacher. A few years back a student didn't like the response that I gave his friend (not him, that's really important here) who had asked me a question about the appropriateness of his shirt. The student was wearing a shirt which depicted Osama Bin Ladden inside a gun telescope. HIs friend asked me what I though and replied honesty "You know, I don't ever think it's OK to promoted the killing of humans, but why not ask the assistant Principal". MATT didn't like my response to his friend, Matt wasn't even involved in the conversation, I didn't even know that he was listening to this converation that his friend had begun with me. MATT began telling lies about me to everyone in the school that he could, most importantly, everyone who had power over me. MATT had a 504 a FederalLegal document that said that he was to have certain accommodations made for him, and he began to INTENTIONALLY make my life miserable. After 6 months of HELL, of having to defend my every move in the classroom, MATTS mother admitted to me that MATT was angry with me for what I said to his friend. She knew this all along, he had admitted to her that he was INENTENTIONALLY trying to get me fired and she said "he's just being a boy". I had already decided that if I wasn't able to come to some agreement or understanding with Matt and/or his mother, and my job WAS BEING threatened at the time, that if I had lost my job I was going to sue this MATT for Slander and Leibel. What I was put through was unacceptable, I was just lucky that I had a department coordinator who believed me. It becomes like a game to kids. A kid who would do this doesn't care about my life or my job. And for the record, his mother was a lawyer.
I hear you, loud and clear. I was harrassed by a student in special education. That gave this student a "legitimate excuse" for inappropriate sexual behavior towards any female at the school. The union couldn't do anything to protect me or the other female teachers. The administration wouldln't do anything because he was special ed. He brought in three times as much money from govenrment funding as regular ed students did. The district claimed to have a "zero-tolerance policy for harasment". RIght.
