11/29 More Big Fat Babies

Quote From: nancydoell

You know, each time my son & I visit the US of A
we are continuously astounded by how many obese people we see in a day and we aren't out to ridicule them. We don't know the reasons of why each individual is so overweight but each time we see one
we think about how much weight the body is carrying around and the burden placed on the hearts and knees and joints ! As Dr.Phil has said, the obese seriously need to take on a lifestyle change if they want to be healthy and do this before your weight take its toll on you physically and emotionally. It's very demoralizing for people to stare at you open mouthed and just with the 'how could you allow yourself to get like that in the first place look" on their face.
If my 10 year old can make healthy choices and tell me he'll pass desert because he had some candy earlier, you can too... we might add, we are real foodies too.. we love to eat, but our weight is healthy. Thanks.

I live in Canada and believe me we don't have to go to USA to see this problem. its all around us. If there is no medical reason for the weight problem, then yes a healthy approach to diet and exercise will fix the problem. my husband has a friend who is very overweight ... he eats way too much and all the  wrong types of foods....and at 53 has had two replacement knees already. It is not a kindness to raise kids in an uhealthy eating lifestyle. some day they'll be paying the price ... maybe with their lives.

This post reminds me of the book "French Women Don't Get Fat," that was so popular a few years ago. Then France made a study and found out that obesity is on the rise there and it predicted that within 20 years the French would weigh just as much as the Americans.

One reason for the increase in obesity in America is that so many of us have quit smoking. Smoking is still very common in the UK and Europe, but as those people give up tobacco, a natural appetite reducer, then the average weight of the citizens will rise.

Yes we all need to make good food choices and exercise, but I was doing both of those things when I quit smoking and I still gained 60 pounds the first year.

Weight control is a constant battle for many of us. We can't just quit eating the way we can quit drinking or smoking, we have to have a little bit of our problem substance every day.

My dog doesn't have any emotional issues but she would eat three times what she needs if it was put in front of her. We are all programed to feast when food is available because a famine might be right around the corner.

For many of us it's a very fine line between eating so little our metabolism slows down and eating so much we gain. If it's easy for you then be grateful but don't be smug.

I see that you are from Japan, and for so long your way of eating, as well as what you ate did keep the majority of you healthier....but, the more Westernized your country becomes, the more of you look just like us!...and it's happening pretty fast.

Also, your death rate from smoking is off the charts, whereas we are cutting way down.

Bad habits will cut your life span...it doesn't matter what those habits are.....don't be so smug!
