I had both my girls in Mexico, the country! where not only is breastfeeding the norm but it is extremely hot and humid, so covering with anything would most likely smother the child.  Yet i did it discreetly without ever exposing my breasts.  Bottle feeding is rare there so no one blinks and eye, we're simply feeding our children. Everyday everywhere women breast feed it is natural bodily function.   Embarassment is not an issue, isnt this what the breasts are for?  Maybe if we didn't "sexualize" them and people acknowledged that they produce milk for our children, it would be more accepting.  I am glad i breast fed my children, not only does it bond with them but it is better for their health then man made formula.  And as far as explaining it to a child of 5 and especially a boy, how about the truth, that breasts produce milk and shes feeding her child!  If you dont tell him, he will learn from his buddy whos mom just had a baby.  Lets not put sexual conotation into everything!
