The consequences

The answer is simple: because the only way we learn from our mistakes is when they have consequences. This is true for children and adults. Why would a child see it as mistake if there were no consequences? He/she would probably just see it as fun. STDs and unwanted pregnancies are natural consequences for improper behavior. You want to punish a teenager for having sex by making them have an unwanted child? Would you name the child "My little mistake" or "Natural Consequence"?
