12/19 Parents’ Ultimate Test: Dealing with Autism

Quote From: arlenemarie

I am a single parent of a 17 yr old beautiful girl with multiple disabilities, autism being one of them in addition to mild cerebral palsy, epilepsy and sensory intergration problems, saying it is difficult is a understatment, I wish there was more attention given to single parents as well who love there child and try to the best of there abilities to help there children live up to there greatest potential. As I tell my daughter  Chanell often, I just love you, that's all !

Arlene  I'M  also a mother of an 17yrs old son with autism and yes he is adorable, fun and a hand full but he is my life also. my son was also diagnose with other birth defect like  mild cerebral palsy/ring chromosome 22, heart murmur, and heart disease of AS. he was diagnose at age 5 with autism and at the age of 8yrs old he started with drop seizures/epilepsy. I'M very protected of my children more so of my son not only because of his condition but because he's my last child.I can't have any more kids not because hes like this but for other reason. my son has a loving big sister (21)and brother(19) who helps out as much as they can, but its still gets hard sometimes when they're not around to help out. YES single parents of an autism needs to be RECOGNIZE. People look at me like something is wrong with me because i don't have a job but my job is to take care of my son. nothing wrong with me i can get a job but i choose to stay home with my son because I trust on one with my son along he can't talk and hes still in pampers.so he can't say if someone is hurting him like the kids on the show today. i was hard for me when he had to start school, but I was and he was thankful to have the up most wonderful people teaching him. it was times where I was always going to school just to checkup on him or I would just keep him home, but they ensure me he would be fine not to worry and once I saw he was I kindof slow my worry a lil not much .
