I applaud your decision not to have children if you don't want them. I think that some people are pressured by family and friends to reproduce and are in no way ready or willing to be parents. I have 5 kids (so I am obviously not speaking from experience) but, there are many ways to contribute to society. Being "free" does not mean nonproductive. Catholic priests and nuns are childless (although not very free!) I don't consider them to be selfish!
