10/07 The Latest Debates

BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH, it is all about you nursing moms "doing the best thing for your baby" get over it already, no one is saying you cant breast feed, all that we are saying is do it in your own private area or home!  You dont have to do it in public!  Pump it and if your child gets hungry in public you have a back up plan.  Some public places is fine to nurse as long as your discreet.  But to nurse at a restaurant, bowling alley, playground..etc is just wrong!  And we dont have to see it!
Don't look.  How could something so natural be wrong????  Who decides what is wrong?  You????  Give me a break!!!  Why should I be exiled at home just because I choose to breastfeed.  If I were a smoker, should I be exiled to my home so I don't bother anyone else?  I don't particularly like any kind of smoke....cigarettes or cigars, so I stay away from it.  I don't tell people they don't have a right to go out in public.  It is not right for me to decide for them what they should or shouldn't do.  You must not have children or you would tell me I should pump.  When you do have children try finding the time to pump, get some sleep, feed your child, and change them and bathe them.  Get a grip and get over it.  It is only an issue if you make it one!!!!

Learn about the logistics of breastfeeding! Most breastfed kids DO NOT WANT BOTTLES. They don't know what to do with them! They're disinterested and will scream until they get what they're used to (ie: Boob). They know how to spot a fake when they see it. Introducing bottles or pacifiers to an infant who is breastfed (especially by their mothers) will cause latch confusion, nipple confusion and frustration for mom and baby. No amount of pumping will ever produce the same amount of milk that nursing will. A woman can pump for hours and get a pathetic 1oz of milk. Her baby could suck for 15 minutes and get 5oz. Our bodies are meant to be suckled, not pumped. Nursing mothers should not have to carry around chilled breastmilk and bottles when they go out when they have a pre-heated, pre-sterilized, perfect food source attached to their bodies. I've never once seen a nursing woman *not* be discreet, and you probably haven't either. 12 year olds in tank-tops are more exposed than nursing mothers and you should know that. Shame on you for not.

I am going to guess that you haven't had to pump.  Or have any idea what it entails.  If a baby needs to eat, they need to eat.  They don't understand waiting.  All they know is that they are hungry, and they don't care where they are.  Can you tell me that you have EVER seen a woman get topless to nurse?  I do not believe you have ever seen any woman exposing herself while feeding her baby.  I am really tired of the word "discretion" being thrown around.  It is a subjective word, to one it could mean to be completely covered from the neck down, to another it could mean that you don't see a nipple or someone's pubic area.  I will continue to feed my child where ever she is hungry, whenever she is hungry.  I do not expose myself, I do not take off my shirt, I also do not cover her in a blanket or hide in a corner.  Are you actually trying to say that while my other children are playing at the playground, or while my entire family is eating in a restaurant I am supposed to LEAVE with the baby so she can eat?  There isn't a tap on my breast, I have to pump numerous times a day just to get 4 oz of breast milk and that is if I work super hard.  Then I have to find a way to keep it at the right temperature, then warm it, all at the PARK, just so that you don't have to see me holding my child?  Let me tell you, when I am nursing, that is what you see...me HOLDING my child.

I think it is obvious you have never tried to birth a child, have your life change dramatically, have very little sleep, learn to nurse a child day in and day out, suffered from common breastfeeding challenges such as plugged ducts or mastitis--- all to keep a child thriving.  If you did you would see that it's not all about the breastfeeding mother.  The  mothers who get that selfish award are the ones who never attempt because they can see it's going to be a little to inconvenient or giving of themselves.

No mother should be condemned to a special place, a car or her own house so that she can nurse her child .  That is totally insane.

If you dont want to see "it" dont look.
