12/19 Parents’ Ultimate Test: Dealing with Autism

Quote From: sisterchick

Your daughter is going in the right direction.  Find a neurological pediatrician in her area.  Make an appointment.  Tell them what you suspect.  Autism can only be diagnosed through observation of behaviors or lack of. It is possible that your grandson has some hearing loss and that is the reasons behind his behaviors.  Or it is possible he does have autism.  A neuroligist can diagnos  Good luck.
One of the issues my son had was that at 6 he still could not read/write and it turned out testing for sound blends he was 18%tile and his IQ was 98%tile. Hearing tests should include sound blends.  Tomatis Therapy really helped with the ears working and was not as time intensive as some of the other forms of therapy.  I was happy to have him listen to music that is filtered 2 hours a day for 3 weeks and it did wonders.  My son came out reading K level to 3rd grade in 2 months with a little Phoenemic awareness after the Tomatis listening therapy.  There is no one fix, but a series of things that are meant for each child.
