I disagree with almost everything here

I was going to say the exact same thing you said. I personally don't think that employers or corporations should look into the employee's (or future employees) private lives such as Myspace or Facebook as well. That's a violation of privacy. Can't they be sued for that if they (Employees) found out? It should have nothing to do with their jobs that are affecting them, or for those who are trying to apply. Just because they post some things on the Internet inappropriately, doesn't mean that they'll carry it on into the workplace.

I do feel bad for Mary, because she has no idea on what she's getting herself into. And Amanda isn't helping matters any by calling her names & degrading her.

How can this be a violation of privacy when myspace & facebook are *public* ?  That's like  hearing that someone posed in a nude magazine & going to look at it & then being considered to e nosy or invading their privacy?  it's public & guess what people are going to check out who you are for real & not just in the interview.  If someone says publicly they are taking drugs (meaning it or kidding) a employer has *EVERY RIGHT* to not want to deal with a druggy period.  If it's part of public record then it's part of a public record & putting it on a public place like myspace or face fook is putting it out there themselves!!!!!!  It's not like an employer is grilling people from your past to try to find out intimate details of your life.  We need to be careful of the things we say & do because people will *JUDGE US ON THAT*  that's just life & people need to learn that.

That said I agree that Amanda doesn't help any situation and especially the girl Mary she was speaking to.  You can't talk down to a teenager or they'll just rebel and that's just a fact and that Amanda seemed to think she was some kind of authority.  She's not and she needs to grow up.  I agree that Mary has no idea of what she's setting herself up for but she needs a real adult to step up & 1 parent & the other adults around her to speak *to her* not at her.  Hopefully Amanda will learn the difference prior to having kids of her own, but I know plenty of parents who haven't & they're kids are so out of control it's not funny & the parents have no idea.

There are no privacy laws online, unless someone ELSE posts your real name, address, phone number. When you post pictures of yourself, you lose all rights to your privacy. Important information is, if you post a picture of yourself doing something illegal (ie the 17 year old drinking) it can be used against you in the court of law, anything you type online can also be used against you in the court of law; including in those so called private emails. People need to start treating the internet like it is the real world, if you wouldn't behave like this in the work place, in front of your peers (Ie the mayor) then do not do it online.

As for employee's using facebook or myspace to get more information about people, what a great way to make sure you are paying for what you THINK you are getting. I couldnt agree more with Amanda and the business man, those pictures say a lot about a persons character.

you are so wrong when you post a private pic  on a public board it is no longer  private fair game, if you want private don't post it
