I thought he was awfully laid back and relaxed, especially since he was the focus of so much constructive critisizm. I wonder if this is his normal personality or if he had a little help?

 Mike's affect could that of someone who refuses to grow up. Apparently, growing up has never been required of him.  At least, not by Amanda. And, her enabling mother. But, the 30 day deadline Amanda's mother set, if she wasn't just telling Dr Phil what he wanted to hear and carries it out, ought to begin Mike's growing-up process. With no place to live, he and Amanda will have to get jobs. No matter how "beneath" them.
