Quote From: shadycat1Styles come and styles go, ripped jeans and fishnets in the eighties, baggy pants ans hi huggers you need to shave yourself in order to wear these days. Personally I don't think race has anything to do with it, I live in a WASP town, and the boys here wear them as well.
My question is, who buys the clothes ? Really as a parent do you NOT control the finances and the credit cards ? If so, don't you think you have the right to say "NO" if you think an article of clothing is inappropriate ?
As for the adults, well that's just it, they buy their own clothes, personally I don't think seeing someone's underwear is attractive, and really you aren't making any statements when you are trying to be like everyone else, but then that's a decision you make for yourself.
Do we want to all be wearing uniforms a la "1984" (the book by George Orwell)? Think about it, if the government is allowed this, then what next ? Be honest here, would you really want to live in a country that IMPOSES DRESS CODES on its people (think Afghanistan and the Burka ), so they look rediculous, so what ? This too shall pass.
As for hiding weapons, consider this, ANYONE who is DESPARATE or really WANTS to commit a crime, will find a way to hide a weapon, or cause destruction.
These kids aren't always wannabe gangstas or thugs, and they do grow up, many of them do have jobs and go to school.
I just think that before we knee jerk about things like this (and we seem to regret many knee jerk reactions) we should think about what this could entail.
Yes they are ugly and sloppy looking and I personally do not want to see a young mans boxers...that said, I also do not particularly want to see the young girls wearing belly shirts, bras as outer wear or their thong underpants hanging out of the low rise jeans.
BUT........My parents did not like me wearing jeans that were so low my mom used to say my pube hairs were about to show, and thank goodness I had a flat stomach because my halter top was so skimpy it was not much bigger than a bra and oh yea there was the summer that she hated that the crotch of my Levis cords were down around my knees and the waist band was down low on my hips and they were a like a mans 32 and I was probably a size 6 juniors ....Oh....let me think for minute....HMMMM?? I think it was 1968 ???? Yep that's right. All the styles I just mentioned were "IN" back then....
It is called a faze, a fad, a craze, whatever.....and isn't just the black youths, or the little "gangsta wannabes". I have been in the city , the country, you will see your share of young guys wearing the baggy breeches. I AM RELATELY SURE THIS STYLE WILL BE OUT AS QUICKLY AS IT CAME IN. All it takes is seeing what the kids are wearing on TV or in concert..or whatever & that's what they will be wearing.
On the flip side....I am in favor of school uniforms. It puts all the kids on a fair playing field. No kid getting teased and picked on because their parents can not afford to put them in $100.00 jeans or sneakers. So when they get home they can put on the baggy pants and hang out with their friends in their baggy pants.
Clothes throughout the generations have had an impact on youth. AND there have been some crazy fads over the years!! White Bucs, funny hats, you name it teens have worn it and th more parents hate it the more "they" (meaning the teens and tweens)
The kind of person a child grows up to be is rooted in what he is taught at home. Teach a child self respect, how to respect others, good manners, how the speak properly, the importance of an education, to be a responsible person, a strong faith, the importance of honesty, pride loyalty, love and respect of his family and others and they can put on a paper bag held up w/ a shoestring and become something to be proud of......
I grew up in the late 50's through the fads of the 60's, 70's & oh my gosh....80's big hair and all. I now have 3 grown children, 4 grandchildren (2 more on the way) so I have seen a lot of goofy, ugly styles come & go
So in closing ..."BAGGY PANTS" ? THEY TO SHALL PASS....
