01/25 Secrets in the Suburbs

Quote From: snakebabe

If marriage is one man and one woman as I think you are saying I am curious as to how do you explain David, Solomon and many other men of the bible that had multiple wives and sex slaves?

I appreciate your reply. . . David and Solomon - et al - lived under a different system of God's law that was handed down by Moses (aka: The Law of Moses, The Old Testament), which included the Ten Commandments. To sum it up briefly for you, the primary purpose of the Law of Moses was to help people recognize their sinfulness before God and to prepare them for the coming of Jesus, The Messiah.

When addressing a group of spiritual leaders called the "Pharisees," while on earth, Jesus addressed the true meaning of marriage in Mark 10, under the issue of divorce. When these spiritual leaders asked Jesus if it were lawful for a man to "put away" (i.e., divorce) his wife for any cause/reason, Jesus simply asked them, "What did Moses command you?" Their response was, "Moses PERMITTED  (emphasis mine) a man to write a certificate of divorce, and to dismiss her." The response, then, from Jesus is my point toward your response . . . Jesus responded by saying, "Because of the hardness of your (i.e., the Pharisees) heart he wrote you this precept. "But from the beginning of the creation, God ‘made them male and female.' ‘For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife,
‘and the two shall become one flesh’; so then they are no longer two, but one flesh. "Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate."

My point is, is that God never intended for man to stray from His original plan of marriage, as He had established "from the beginning of the creation." Since Christ came to earth, however, and died upon the cross for the sins of the world (i.e, mankind), Jesus "put to death" the Law of Moses and ratified a BETTER system of law (Read Hebrews chapters 8-10), which includes placing back into order God's original design for the marriage relationship - one man & one woman for a lifetime.
