Pain Management

Quote From: marianparoo

The doctor wanted to give my 85 year old mother Oxycodin for her peipheral neuropathy pain, but when she read about it on Medline (information site of the National Library of Medicine in Rockville, MD) she said NO THANKS!
This is a quality of life issue.  There are some with chronic pain who deserve to live a better and fuller life.  Oxycontin/ Oxycodone is addictive and the dosage often needs to be increased as the person becomes used to it.  It is not for long term use in the general population.  It is a different story when someone has a chronic or terminal condition that causes them to consider suicide.  Make sure that your mother discusses her pain issues with her doctor.  There are plenty of other meds for neuropathy than Oxycodone.
