When you are in an abusive situation, you may even dread going home at night because you know it's coming-you can feel it. Then the abusers usually isolate their victims from friends and family, or they have been burned out on the whole relationship from seeing their loved one getting hurt. These guys make their partners feel as though the only person in the world that loves them is the person hurting them and that no one will believe them even if they did report the abuse...also, the death threats and feeling like there isn't any where far enough to go that the abuser can't get to them anymore is a hard one to deal with. It's much more complicated than people seem to think.
