The Rib Thing

Quote From: katiebug

Obviously this person believes that all Christian husbands are domineering and all wives are submissive. I have been married 19 years and we have mutual respect for each other. How do you

know what "God intended" if you don't believe that woman was created from a man's rib? I believe marriage is a partnership with someone you love and respect.  And some people don't have respect for their spouse. Maybe he needs a maid and mistress, instead of a wife. That way he will be the boss he wants to be.

Maybe the created from the rib thing can be taken with a grain of salt.  Some of the stories in the bible are probably just illustrations to get us to understand things.  If we don't take things to extremes, we can have a sort of leader of the home in mind & still be 50-50 all the way 99% of the time.  In certain instances, the male likes to take the lead & if you let him, he feels better.  He has a fragile ego & it's nice to beef it up.  Makes for better sex.  But overall, we all know we're 50-50 unless the couple themselves decide to make it otherwise.

What is a wife?

Please read Proverbs 31 and Ephesians 5:22-32 (if you have a Bible...otherwise, you can go on-line and read it (New King James Version).  I believe it.  Every word.  Woman was taken from Man to be a "help-meet."  That means to meet his need for a helper - a partner:  To rule & reign, together, over the earth & subdue it, as Genesis reads.  The problem:  they fell from His grace & chose to deviate from the Plan.  When Ephesians was written, it emphasized on the same premise:  That man and woman guard their relationship to one-another as sacred & cherish each, the other.  Not expecting to be cherished & served, but to gladly serve the other as if he/she were serving God...The greatest being Who ever lived!  The One who created us.  Who wouldn't want to be God's butler?!  Although I will admit that I fail repeated at fulfilling that wonderful plan, I strive everyday to allow my heart to be changed in order to make my husband feel that he is the most important person in my life.  I've seen great results come from serving him, happily.  I just pray, each day, that I can put my thoughts to actions more diligently.
