this was my thought too

Quote From: momnique

Michael, got so drunk before the ceremony that he passed out cold after saying I do.

I do believe that in most states, you have to be sober, not have been forced or coerced,  in order to sign a marriage contract, otherwise the contract is invalid.  The way I see it, the contract is invalid and they are not legally married.
The program here hasn't aired yet but when I heard this in the coming attractions during the week that comment was part of it "Michael, got so drunk before the ceremony that he passed out cold after saying "I do."   And I was always under the impression that a contract signed while someone is intoxicated is nule & void right?  I also thought it was part of the direction given during the ceremony that marriage should be entered unto soberly, and so of course even people taking vows will break them etc. but the *legal* part of it which is the signing of the marriage license is a legal contract that is subject to laws & such right?

I am glad that someone brought this up. I was also under the impression that if you are under the influence of anything, legally this marriage is not valid. I am also surprised that the grooms father even let his son walk into a church completely hammered. The priest also allowed for this man to disrespect the church and make a vow to this woman. How can he make a vow, he could barely stand still. Is there no common sense. Can the priest get into some type of trouble for performing this ceremony, obviously knowing that the groom was intoxicated?

To be honest I don't think that a 2nd ceremony & reception is gonna to make this "brides" feelings go away. It's going to take much more than that. I hope that they seek some counceling. I also hope that when they have children he doesn't get so drunk that he misses the birth of their child.

I also have to wonder why he felt compelled to drink so much as to become so intoxicated before the wedding ceremony?

I mean like really, if some one has to get bombed before they say I do, then they shouldn't be saying anything at all....

If that is true...

If that is true....... it really doesn't matter because now they're getting the wedding of their dreams thanks to the Dr. Phil Show and this Countryside Country Club.  So, now they get to do it all over again - CORRECTLY and obviously WAY better than the first time.  Congratulations to them!  They actually look like they love each other very much and I agree - I think that Michael made a mistake but he knows it and wants to make it right to live the rest of his life with the love of his life.
