Some people need that book in order to be good people.
I am a good person without the book. I do not need visions of hell or a boogy man like Satan to make me be a good person.
I am good inside because I choose to be knowing that nothing awaits for me in the end but silence. If silence is what you're looking forward to, try sitting in silent darkness for just 24 hours. No children's voices, no sweet whispers or caress from your husband, no comfort for sadness. Just emptiness. But the Bible also says that you'll experience not silence, but you'll hear the cries of the wretched, screams of agony and sadness. Consider, the alternative: If the Bible is not true, than we have no punishment for believing in it, but to spend our lives trusting in what we believe to be a just and loving God & spending that Love on the people around us; If it is true, and we choose not to believe in it, the consequences will last forever...eternity. This life is nothing but a "vapor", a whisper, compared to the eternity which awaits us after death. "And it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgement." Hebrews 9:27
