03/03 Teens and Sex with Bishop T.D. Jakes
Quote From: mrjimmybUnfortunately we live in an age where pre marital sex is approved of. The acceptable peer pressure of the time is " try out the merchandise before you get married". I don't know how many times i've heard this phrase over the years. In years gone by the peer pressure was those who did such were shunned.
Today there are many other problems that must be faced such as HIV, AIDS. It's time for the morality of this nation to turn around and stand up for what morally right. Diseases like aids and HIV show how the
steady moral decline of this nation and it is now reaping the fruits of what it's sowed for many years. The only way to eradicate such diseases is to be tested fore such diseases before marriage and to abstain until marriage. Until the morality of this nation improves these diseases will always be a problem. The problem is that most morals are based on a religion that not everyone agrees with. Freedom of Religion means Freedom of EVERY Religion. Not just yours, not just mine. When it comes to educating our children, we need to give them the facts, not just "you're going to hell for sex and sex is so evil and if you have sex you're a whore." Parents should teach their children morals, but leave it up to the schools to teach them the facts. Telling teens that "sex is evil" is not a fact. And also teling them that birthcontrol is not effective is a lie. If birth control is not working then, how come there is scientic evidence that says they do work? How is this not the truth?
Just because you believe that everyone should follow strict "morals" does not mean that I want to. I think eating meat is evil because animals are living things and eating them is murder - would you like if I told you that you were wrong because you eat meat? I don't believe you are wrong for being against premarrital sex but you have to understand that not everyone feels that way. Live and let live. Teach your kids that they should save them selves till marriage, and I will teach my kids what I believe.
There needs to be a medium - the facts and tools should be available to our young people but it should be up to parents to tell them morals. People forget that even for teens, sex is a part of HEALTHCARE. By denying them education and facts about sex, that is the same as denying them health care.
