I do believe it was the right thing for Governor Spritzer to do was to step down. Now the  state can get on with it's day to day business instead of spending tax dollars trying to find out weather or not he had an affair.

While I do not agree with  what he did I applaud him for being man enough to stand up and say "yes I made a mistake"!!  I remember the former Clinton administration when at every press conference instead of  wanting to talk about issues the affected out nation the question was always being brought up about Monica Lewinsky. In my opinion he should have stepped down then, because that was all we seemed to hear about from that point on.

I totally agree that Spitzer should step down because he's not in that high a position where it will be to anyone's detriment if he does.  And, by the way, he should NOT be given credit for admitting he was wrong: he didn't have a choice..he was SO busted! If not for that, he would still be doing it, so I have a hard time believing he 'fessed up for any reason other than he got caught..and if he was sorry for anything, it was only that.

But, Clinton, although he did a REALLY stupid thing with that bimbo, he was, in my opinion, a good president, and for him to have stepped down over that would have put our country in jeopardy.. ...because look who would have taken over!  His affair was wrong and stupid, but didn't put us as a country in danger.  (Made us look bad, for sure...but didn't put us in danger as it may have if he had just stepped down.  Also, he didn't do anything that wasn't done by probably every other president down through history....he just got caught.  And, please, don't jump on and tell me that what you think I'm saying is that it was acceptable for him or any other president.....of COURSE it wasn't!!)

And yes, the media went into a frenzy over what Clinton did....don't they always when a public official messes up? A person in power is held to a higher standard....as they should  be....and when it's shown that they have feet of clay people seem to take a perverse pleasure in pouncing on that. Just an observation. We want, and should expect....and have a right to expect....those in power to behave with honesty and morality. We want to look to them for guidance befitting their positions, and are disappointed when they fall short of our expectations. Deception is always disappointing.

I believe that when someone takes a position of power, they should do so with the intent of carrying out those duties of office in a way that will benefit others....but, we all know too many only get into office for the money and the power and couldn't care less about their constituents....and those who do enter politics with good intentions soon are overwhelmed with corruption and fall into step.

Absolute power corrupts absolutely.
