smarter than him

Agreed.

These policial wives have had decades of learning how to act and speak so as to help get their husbands elected to office (sometimes MANY offices). They walk the walk and talk the talk IN PUBLIC, but just imagine what life is like behind closed doors!

Also, I am confident she wanted to rip his throat out, but she is  the mother of his children, so her immediate thoughts are probably on what is the best way to behave for the sake of the children (regardless of their ages). She will most likely do the public "dance" for the cameras and also for the children, but show a different side of herself in private.

And, of course, her livelihood DOES go down the toilet when her husband's does, so her welfare IS dependent upon his. It must be scary to think that the income will stop, especially when you've stayed home to raise the family and be the social organizer for years. She is going to do what it takes to have him land on his feet. HER income and that of her children's dependents upon it!

Mrs. Spitzer is a whole lot smarter than her husband.  She graduated above him, she had a job that paid her far more money than his did him.  She decided to help build his political career so she has to take the good with the bad. She chose to marry him and to continue to stand next to him "for better or worse".  The vows do not say better or worse because of something someone else did or you did or your spouse it is just better or worse. I admire her for continuing to stand beside him.  Maybe instead of helping build his political career she should have built her own.

Isn't it amazing that, in this day and age, that many women still depend on men for their identity and livelihood. I've got nothing against women encouraging and supporting their husband's career, be it in the private, or public sector. But, they should guard themselves against ending up in Silda Spitzer's position. Financially dependant on a man who not only cheats on her, but pays for it.

Your last paragraph made the most sense to me.. I don't want to make assumptions but don't these political wives get to live a pretty affluent life without having to work at their own job/career? If they leave they just may have to support themselves and their income may plummet so they stay.
