Quote From: fluffyfatI'm glad the doctors are going to talk about this subject. I think the growing poularity of breast augmentation is shocking. How is it different from the foot-binding Chinese women had done in the 19th Century or the African tribal women with lip plates and neck rings? Unless women are getting implants for medical reasons after mastectomys, it's exactly the same!
[bThese women are volunteering to have their chests cut open and foreign devices implanted -- for the sole reason of pleasing the sexual fetishes of men. [/b
They will tell you that they're doing it for themselves but that's obviously untrue. Would they be getting implants if they lived on a deserted island? Men once considered large breasts unattractive, as evidenced by the old paintings in which women were plump but had apple sized breasts. Somewhere along the line big breasts became fashionable in the world of pornography and now the average high-school girl considers herself unworthy as a lust object until she goes through this surgery.
It's not in the same area as make-up and hair coloring because those things are inexpensive and neither permanent nor dangerous. Have some pride, women! If you can't get a man to like you without having surgical alterations to your body then he isn't worth having!
Just my opinion, but I don't think there's anything wrong with it as long as youre doing it for yourself and not trying to just to attract someone. There are things like Body Dysmorphic Disorder where they obsess about certain parts of the body and that could lead to an addiction to plastic surgery. Then there are people who don't obsess, but if they were on a deserted island, they would still get the surgery. I used to take care of some women who had work done (face lifts, tummy tucks), and they looked amazing for their age. There are places where I wouldn't mind having lipo'd because even at my thinnest in high school, that "fluff" was still there in that annoying place.
Youre right about the social acceptance though, and I think a lot of women do it for that reason alone, which is sad. If small breasts suddenly was the popular thing, I wonder how many women would have their implants taken out? Would women still get augmentation- I'm pretty sure. There are women who get "downsized" now because of back problems- as long as the current fad doesn't determine the permanent changes that you make. I agree with that.
