Love of Money - origination; Selfishness & Impure Hearts lead to drug use

Quote From: thedesertdawg

I almost thought that I might change that saying.  But really money and drugs are neutral.  It's what people do with them that cause all the problems.

KJV-R (Webster) 1 Timothy 6:10 For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

Drug are consumed by people who have emotional issues prior to the drug use in the first place. I worked in a facility for several years with teens and young adults break addictions to drugs, leaving prostitution, and overcoming their emotional problems. Underneath the emotional problems was an underlying spiritual problem. When someone has spiritual problems it shows up in problems with their thinking and their minds. A good source for help is Battlefield of the Mind - there are people who have read this in mental institutions and have gotten off ALL medication, been released, and go on to lead normal - actually BETTER than normal lives. The book is available for less than $10 including shipping at Amazon.com used.

If someone is struggling with addiction and/or bondage themselves or if they have a family member who is struggling, a great resource is Breaking Free by Beth Moore. This book explain a lot behind, way behind, addictions and bondages. It also provides tools for breaking the bondage, it helps people to deal with others in bondage (when you are not prone to those addictions), etc. It is an eye opening book once you get to about the middle of it. Another resource is Demonology and Deliverance www.BennyHinn.org Focus on the Family offers 1 FREE phone counseling check out family.org for the phone number and they give EXCELLENT referrals. Also, certain Aetna health insurance plan members are eligible for on the phone crisis counseling for emergencies if you call the behavioral health line on the back of your card.

I believe that all people are created with a God shaped hole in their souls. They might try to fill it up with working, earning awards, drugs, movies, television, lots of sex, multiple sex partners, pharm drugs, exercise, and even "religion" meaning the outward appearance of something like church attendance and service BUT the key to filling that "thirst" is to have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. I know a well respected PhD therapist who is also a professor and he says that modern psychology cannot change fundamental character flaws. What is the answer? Jesus Christ because once saved and baptist, a person can renew their mind with the living Word of God which is the only thing powerful enough to institute true change and to give those in bondage and addiction COMPLETE freedom. When I say complete, I mean totally free. "whom the Son sets free is free indeed" Of course, the bible says not to become ensnared again in a yoke of bondage once delivered so the person would need to stay in fellowship with Jesus, follow the bible's advice, and abide in Him to stay free.

The Holy Spirit yearns for man to come to Jesus. The bible explains and outlines all the things man might try before coming to Jesus. It also explains that some will turn away in II Tim Chapter 3 - this chapter describes very selfish people and violent men - perilious times and perilous men. Many selfish people, confused people, empty people, unhappy (this ungrateful) people, etc turn to drugs. I have personally experienced some very challenging things, my life has probably had deeper trenches than most (my caregivers died, I was molested as a child, I spent time homeless, I was raped as a young adult, and my first daughter died to due several errors on the docter and staff to list a few - there is more); however, by turning to Jesus, I have been able to avoid drugs competely through it all. I experienced a good marriage which ended unexpectedly and abruptly. Then I was in a very abusive relationship. Yet Jesus gives hope and strength that has protected me from so much. Here is some information about envy (if a drug user didn't envy someone else's life, they might not want to drown out there out; a lot of drug users envy fictional lives on tv shows, movies, etc), confusion, strife/arguments, murder, etc.

KJV-R (Webster) James 3:13 Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him show out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom.

James 3:14 But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth.

15 This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, demonish.

16 For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work.

17 But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.

18 And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace.

4:1 From whence come wars and fightings among you? come they not hence, even of your lusts that war in your members?

2 Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not.

3 Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.

4 Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.

5 Do ye think that the scripture saith in vain, The spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy?

KJV-R (Webster) James 4:6 But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace to the humble.

7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the demon, and he will flee from you.

8 Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.

9 Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness.

10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.

"For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places." Ephesians 6:12

"I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you." Luke 10:19
