10/13 Cheerleader Scandal

Quote From: jayleigh

Dr. Phil said that the young man had threatened to "commit suicide" if she left him. He threatened to kill her and her younger brother. After fighting, she went to leave him and he stepped out in front of her car. Sounds like SUICIDE to me. She has served more time than child rapists and first-degree murderers. Let her go home.

What are you thinkig are you crazy. My Brother never mentioned in his life that he was going to kill her or her brother let alone him self. He had full scolarships to school and football. You really dont know what you are talking about  cause that is what her family said  All you guys go by is what brandi and her family says and that is bull. We didnt get a chance to tell the truth. IT WAS NOT SUICIDE

I agree with 'jayleigh'  on this one!   Think of this!   Daniel was mad that Brandi had left him after they had talked outside his house.   Daniel had told Brandi he would kill himself or her brother.  Daniel sees Brandi come down the road toward her home.   Daniel can rid himself of the pain of being dumped by Brandi----- and make it look like Brandi KILLED HIM----- Brandi would have to take the BLAME for running off on Daniel!   So Daniel jumps out in front of Brandi's car.   Things are working just as  Daniel had planned!!!    Of Course this is an accident to Brandi!  No wonder Brandi doesn't know what happened after Daniel appeared in front of her car----- she wouldn't think Daniel would really kill himself over her!   Retry Brandi with a NEW lawyer!   She has paid enough!

Are you going to belive someone who commited murder?? She could be making it all up to try to get people to think she is not guilty. She did it and knew what she was doing when she did it.

Death vs. 12 years, which would your family choose?

Jayleigh - you are completely clueless - Rapists and First degree murders get less time than she has served (which is currently less than 4 years).  Turn off the TV and read the news.  Those convicted of first degree murder get at best 25 to life.  And btw, anyone can scream abuse AFTER THE FACT!!  That is the most common plea of women and while it unfortunately happens often, it is also used quite often as an excuse.  I believe that she now thinks she is innocent, she has convinced herself of that and I believe that she was young and ignorant enough (and her parents were obviously ignorant too) to not engage more with her attorney to know what was going on.  BUT once she signed the documents and accepted the plea she has ADMITTED to voluntary manslaughter.  SHE ADMITTED TO IT!!!  Whether she did it because she and her parents were too ignorant to make a better decision or because wanted to get 4 months for taking a human life, she signed the papers and admitted to manslaughter.  To turn around and say that she is innocent is offensive.  There are people in prison who are innocent (albeit not many) but they opted to go to trial.  If she was innocent she SHOULD HAVE GO TO TRIAL AND LET THE JURY DECIDE!!  If they found her guilty but she never conceded she was then she might have a reasonable argument, at the very least as long as she didn't ever admit it she has a right to continue to claim her innocence.    Poor little girl behind bars.  It sucks that her family only gets to see her once/week.  If she were in the grave they could visit her gravesite every day if they wanted to.  And her brother using this as an excuse to commit crimes and the family using it as an excuse for Brandi's brother's behavior is SICK and PATHETIC!!

Let's follow up with this

Setting aside judgement of innocense or guilt in this case, for the sake of investigating further, let's take a look at the wide descrepancy in sentence time given to women who have been convicted in a domestic violence situation, compared to men who have been convicted r in a comparable domestic violence situation.  It is my perception that women receive significantly longer sentences!  Just as African/Americans receive much harsher punishment for and higher conviction rate.    And I agree that convicted sex offenders, child molesters etc. also frequently get off with comparably much less time, than this girl has received.  Let's talk about bringing more EQUITY into our Justice system.

How many programs, books, seminars have been made available to educate us in the knowledge that as a rule abused people do not tell at the time of the abuse - threatening to commit suicide was just another attempt to control (abuse by emotional guilt) and the act was yet another, drama that went awry and ended in actual suicide.  Has anybody seen "Opra" in the past few days --- let's concentrate on putting away the child rapists on the FIRST offense, not the child !

Think really hard before making statements. There was no proof he was suicidal... or abusive.. When that evidence is shown then maybe,... just maybe i'll drink the Kool-Aide,,, until then guilty is what guilty is.

One of the first things that came to me watching and hearing this story was suicide

They were both highly emotionally distressed at the time.  Neither were thinking logically she turned around for whatever reason and headed back past his home (who has not turned to drive by a lovers place) she was crying, it was dark, she was not thinking about driving … she was thinking about him.

He was crying, upset, who knows what was in his brain but I think suicide could have crossed his mind and in a moment of extremely emotionally distraught thought he stepped out. With her in poor control she hit him.   I think Suicide is a very real possibility.  But whatever (( and no one knows  )) what happened... she is still guilty of hit and run and should do an appropriate time for the hit and run.  Hit and run is the only charge that we can all know for sure.

If the kid said that he would kill himself before he died then she should be let go!!!  I know it's tough to lose a child, but the child stepped in front of a moving vehicle.  That's not right!

People who repeated kill on purpose don't get sentenced to the "rest of their life"...it doesn't seem fair, but Brandi's crime in comparison to child abusers, etc. is pale.
