I am appalled by this "accident". Brandi told lie after lie to Dr. Phil. Maybe she really doesn't know fact from fiction!
If Daniel really beat her up as she stated, where are the photos? If my child had come home after being "beat up" I would document it. If it were emotional abuse, she wouldn't have used the term "beat up" and there are ways to document emotional abuse as well (recordings, etc.) There are women who are truly the victims of domestic violence, I know because I am one of them. For her to use this as her defense sickens me.
She was deceitful from the beginning by sneaking into her parent's room, stealing the keys to the car, and sneaking out of her window to take him his things.
It is apparent to me that the two of them had an argument that night. She took his belongings to him, left and apparently was angry enough to go back and speed through his neighborhood and hit him. But she didn't know she hit him...If you run over a dog, you know you hit it. Daniel SMASHED into and off of her windshield and she didn't know?! Of course she knew. She even said she was afraid to go back and see because he might hurt her. Give me a break. She's probably correct in that had he not been hurt, he probably would have hurt her for attempting to hit him with the car. She said she was going 25 - 30 mph, people did you really look at that car? Even Dr. Phil said she had to have been going at least 60.
She then continued her lies and tried to cover up what happened to the car by putting a stick into the windshield in hopes she could convince her parents of something of than the TRUTH. I don't think it was her intent for Daniel to die and had he not, probably in her thinking, putting that stick in the window would have been her word against his. But that all fell apart when the authorities showed up.
A fit of anger has permanently changed the lives of so many. If she could tell the full truth, members of both families could begin to heal.
True, Brandi's incarceration can't bring Daniel back but no amount of punishment fits the crime. May she continue to have the nightmares she has until she can be completely honest!
I do believe that Brandi regrets what she did and she can't take it back. However, as Dr. Phil says, you can't change what you can't acknowledge. Two people know the truth, one can never speak of it and the other won't.
