You must be joking

Quote From: memasue

After the fury of the FLDS has passed maybe Dr. Phil and co. can go and bother the Amish! I hear that they also abuse their children. OH...that's right...they aren't quite as bad because they don't practice polygamy!

A hundred years ago nobody thought anything about a girl marrying at 13, 14 or 15. Why can't people be allowed to live their lives the way that they see fit, the way that works for them? What happenned to religious freedom in this country? Or does that only apply to people who the majority consider to be "morally correct"?

Leave these poor people alone and let the children go home to the families that love them!

Normally I would not respond to this but I have a curiosity. Is religion an excuse to sexually abuse someone in your family? I am afraid to ask if you have children. Sorry for being so judgmental, I am sure you have your own reasons for defending pedophiles and sexual abuse of children.

This sect of FLDS cannot be anywhere near compared to the Omish (do your homework my friend) this raid was an act of hope for these children who are nothing but future child brides to breed more child brides. What type of life is that for them? They are born into this culture and they have NO CHOICE to decide if this is what they want for their lives. The Omish are given a choice to see if this is the lifestyle they want for their future. The Omish are free to decide, these children of the FLDS are  nothing more then excused sex slaves for the sake of religion (serioulsy do your homework before you post such an irresponsible post). These people dont even know what they dont know. I am all for letting poeple live their religion and to live their culture but this is neither, this is blantant abuse on so many levels AND they are BREAKING THE LAW, when is breaking the law ok? putting all the emotions aside, the bottom line is people can isloate themselves all they want and feel like they are their own country with their own laws, but we live in America and we have to live within the bounds of the laws set up for us citizens. These leaders of the FLDS ARE NOT THE LAW MAKERS FOR THESE CHILDRENS FUTURE these children deserve the right to have a CHOICE!!!

Hi! I would encourage you to go online and type in "Warren Jeffs" and you will find a lot of information about this particular religious group. I don't think you realize how these people are living. It's beyond anything that can be considered reasonable. I could type in some of the information here, but I don't hardly know where to begin. Please, go and read some more about it and then get back to me.

Religious freedom STOPS once you begin to hurt other people.

13, 14, 15 year old CHILDREN don't have mature enough brains to make a fully informed decision about who to marry. These sick cults have to raise these girl up and brainwash them through their entire lives so they literally have NO CHOICE in the matter.

Marriage should be for ADULTS only.

I don't think what they are doing is BOTHERING, but I think they are RESCUING..... the teen girls who don't  want to be married to 50 yr old already married men.  I think it seems drastic.... but I think they tried to be diplomatic a few years ago and it did not change the practice.  I think its very tangled and there is probably no perfect way to handle the situation.  I mean you could bring in a new Latter Days Saints Pastor to the compound with a good reputation to help bring about reform?  but even then the 19 yr olds who don't want to be married to their 55 yr old husband with other wives...  then should they divorce him and move to another state with the kids and what about the visitation?  **sigh**

Amish people dress the same, but have a open door policy to the rest of the world.  They are a good example and there is nothing to hide.  I personally think they mind their own business and are peaceful. Anyone who has visited knows you can gets great homegrown produce and quality handmade products.  I think in this compound there is a barred gate:  no one comes in and no one goes out.

I would hope to believe that we progressed since a 100 years ago.

'Love" is such an ambigious word at times.  I mean, do you think these families "loved" the 400 or so male children they kicked out of their warm and "loving" bossom.   The 400 or so "lost boys" that had no education, no money, no basic needs being met (e.g. food, clothing, shelter).  Were the families showing "love" to the little girls that they forced into "loveless" marriages.  Damn, that kind of love can kill.

Here, in North America, our founders decided to make religion and state seperate.  Our fouders came to this very wise decision due to accumulated knowledge and experiences from over 100 years ago. See, we wanted a great country with LAWS, and not just religion.  This religious sect has been found guilty of breaking such laws. They are guilty of child labor laws, marital age laws, child molestation laws, rape laws and education laws.  In this country parents can and do go to jail for not providing proper education for their children.  These people weren't even homeschooling past the age of 7 or 8 years-old.  How the hell can this happen in America!

You might say that these people are not our concern...that they are not our problem.  We should simply leave these "loving" families be.  But, I beg to differ.  As soon as 1 of those 400 "lost boys" were dumped on our doorstep to provide for, it became our concern...our problem.

Are you insane they are nothing like the Amish community! There is nothing wrong with living a simpler life so long as you’re not grossly abusive to children. The fathers take young infants, spank them until they cry hysterically and then run them under a faucet. They do this over and over again until the baby is exhausted, and they do it when they are young enough to not remember but so the fear is imprinted in their mind. They call it breaking. Did you see those women, I’ve never seen people more disassociated in my life. All I can say, and as much as I am not a Texas fan, but thank GOD for Texas.

There needs to be national support for this malignant cult. All of the children from all of Warren Jeff’s little communities of horror need to be removed. There needs to be some sort of government funded rehabilitation program for all of the victims involved, especially the women and children. It is not an Amish community, Amish people are kind, hard working and good. These people are broken, brainwashed and victims of one VERY SICK MAN. He should be executed for his crimes against humanity…publicly

What about basic human rights?

I am in no way trying to be condescending.  I am really surprised at some of the statements you have made. I respect that they are your opinion.  Lets just look at the commonly know facts:
1. polygamy is illegal whether or not one is underage.
2.Sexual abuse is illegal and YES, (I hope despite what you said that you will agree) MORALLY WRONG.
3.And so, to put these children back in an abusive situation can not be the answer.

And to answer your questions:
1. Why can't people be allowed to live their lives the way that they see fit, the way that works for them?
They can. As long as in doing so they aren't harming anyone or anything. (ie... a pediphile living life according to how he/she sees fit is not okay that is why there is laws against it.)
2. What happenned to religious freedom in this country? Or does that only apply to people who the majority consider to be "morally correct"?
(I understand that what is morally correct is a term that varies from culture to culture. This all happened here in the USA and so according to our "laws"  or our countries morals it is illegal.  So in answer to your question:)
Religious freedom still exists but only when it isn't violating the laws of the land.  I can't go rob a bank and say that it is part of my religious freedom. My religious beliefs are irrelavant if I break the law. Ask yourself, should the "religious" freedom of these man and woman be more important then the basic human rights of the innocent victims left in its path?

Morally correct?!

What other avenue do the children have for protection if CPS doesn't get involved?  CPS doesn't just remove children willy-nilly.  I'm not saying they never make mistakes, but can you imagine the colossal suits that would come up if they didn't have their ducks in a row with removing 400+ children?  Also, don't you think society should make better choices after 100 years?  A child of 13 needs to mature and their brain hasn't even stopped growing yet!  They still can't predict consequences of their actions yet.  Maybe girls married that young back then, but we should learn from our forefather's mistakes and protect children that have no other way out.
