The LDS church originally allowed polyamy and its founders, Joseph Smith and Brigham Young had several wives. But, in order for Utah to become a State, the LDS church renounced polygamy. Only such splinter groups as the FLDS still practice it.

I am sorry but a Pastor of mine(Iam a Christian) told me that LDS are in fact a cult because they believe that Jesus came twice, during his time here on earth and then to America.  There are several other reasons he stated also in the idea that LDS do not believe the the Holy Trinity, Father, Son and Holy Ghost, and are not batized as such.

 well karen  dont  feel  bad  I  am  just  a  plain  jane  christian  meaning  I  believe  the  teachings  from  scripture  about  Jesus  christ , Im  not  indoctrinated  past  that  point  , I  have  no  deranged  reports  of  abuse  being  my  parents  actually  never  attended  church  on  a  regular  basis . So enforcement  of  anything  not  the  case  with  me ,  needless  to  say  I  myself  am  quite  apalled  to  hear  that  some  former  believers  and  teachers  of  christianity  would  actually  go  so  far  as  to  say  even  christianity  is  a  "cult"  for  the  most  part  karen  the  term  "cult  should  be  understood  more   I  gave  quite  a  extensive  post  about  what  the  term  means  etc..etc..  not  certian  where  the  post  is  but  hope  it  shows  up  anyway  karen  the  term  cult  today  is  being  used  very  very  different  from  the  original  meaning  of  the  term  cult  ,  and  you  should  understand  that  the  use  of  the  term   in  and  of  itself  promotes  religious  intolerance  period .  it  first  appeared  in  english  in  1617   and  is  derived  from  french  word  culte  meaning  worship  which  translates  in  english  latin  meaning  cultivate  till  the  soil
cult  is  a  word  without  much  use  outside  religious  mudslinging  period  ,  it  is  a  word  that  devalues  intentionally  the  term  often  creates  fear  and  loathing  among  the  public and  contributes  greatly  to  intolerance  and  carries  very  heavy  emotional  content   the  term  alone  suggests  that  it  is  something  for  people  to  detest  avoid  and  fear  ,  it  is  purely    ignorant  the   way  in  which  it  is  used  today  so  just  make  certian  whatever  you  hold  to  that  there  is  enough  evidence  to  say  thats  what  you  are  if  your  tried  for  it  .  I  can  assure  you  that  many  accused  of  being  in  a  cult   just  need  their  pastors  to  explain  the  word  how  it  is  being  used  and  what  it  implies  and  then  I  am  certian  that  if  you  believe  your  temporal  "  worship"  which  in  most  faith  based  groups  worship  is  for  God  alone  be  comforted  knowing  if  you  have  worshipped  him  alone  you will  be  judged  by  him  alone  in  the  end  and  you  need  not  hate  the  fact  cult  means  anything  you  should  automatically  be  ashamed  of  period .  Not  saying  thats  the  case  with  all  ,  but  most   .  look  into  the  word  cult  and  how  that  specific  word  is  used  today   ,  it  wont  take  you  long  to  gain  a  more  in  depth  perspective  about  whats  happening !!!  your  intrinsic  rights  is  not  something  violatable  if  you  learn  the  truth .  people  are  free  to  worship  whatever  they  wish  too ,  stand  for  it  , or  loose  it  , the  war  on  religion  has  began  and  its  not  politically  so  correct  .  Strastegically  I  hope  they  are  scared  to  death  to  go  there  they  all  should  be !!   The  difference  between  a  cult  and  a  religion  is  a  IRS  ruling  .  church  seperate  from  state  ,  dont  you  think  they  hate  that  being  religion  draws  more  money  than poloticians  LOL  its  not  all  cracked  up  to  be  what  it  appears  if  you  take  a  look  behind  the  scenes  of  the  smoking  mirrors  ,  dont  worry  bout it  karen , stand  for  something  and  fall  for  nothing  when  it  comes  to   the  trying  times  .
