She's threatened by the fact that he can call her bluff. I'm on the kid's side in this matter. I think the mom is the problem 100%. She's an idiot, and the kid can't help it if he's got brains, and her ignorance is annoying.

There is, however, a huge difference between understanding how the kid feels, and blaming a person for being sad and being not up to dealing with a very difficult situation. And frankly, I find it hard to believe that you are seriously blaming Wendy for being sad (if, in fact, you're right about her being sad all the time). Depression and grief isn't something that you do, it's something that happens to you.
