My kids were a little spoiled when they were younger but, they never disrespected me to the point of slapping me in the face.    I will admit when my daughter was a teenager she told me one day she  wanted to slap me.  She got grounded and had no phone privileges for 1 week.     That was the end of the wanting to slap me.
 more likely that was the end of her saying she wanted to slap you. i'm sure she stillhad that feeling sometimes when she was angry. don't we all? it might have been worth it to tell her that it was "normal"to feel that way but that she must never do it.

still, i get that you wanted to nip this in the bud so it wouldn't turn into something worse -- like actually slapping you. and i agre with you that kids have to hear the word "no" from early on. but i would add that parents have to mean it/ follow through on it or it can become an empty phrase.
