09/12 The N-Word Debate

Quote From: dbogue

I think the N-word should be treated the same as the F-word. They are bad for everyone. No one should use them. There is no reason to use them. They just hurt .
How do they hurt? The f-word and the n-word do not inherently hurt and I would venture to say that MOST of the time, people CHOOSE to be hurt by WORDS. It's not the WORD itself, it's the intention behind it that has the potential to hurt. And even then...people choose to be hurt.

Both these words have power because we as a society decided that they have power. They are nothing more than sound waves made by our mouths that are received by our ears and translated by our brains.

WRONG

I am 50 years old, grew up in the South and am still here!  BOTH WORDS ARE WRONG!  I grew up hearing my parents and all 4 of my late grandparents use the "N" word and my mom use the "F" word.  I raised my children not to say those words and not to judge anyone by the color of their skin, religion or creed.

I have had company recently and if any bad word comes out of their mouths, "N", "F", or "GD", then they are promptly escorted out of my house!

I won't have in my home, or around me whatsoever!

I understand that the young black people call each other that all the time, which shows that have no respect for their heritage at all.

When I was drving a bus, I used to pick up all sorts of passengers, and if the person was of color, they showed my deep respect, but I didn't like it when they would say "YES MA'AM, or "NO'MA'AM..........they deserved my respect instead, and I'm proud to say I gave it to them every chance I got.

The younguns of this world need to REMEMBER THEIR HISTORY, OR THEY'RE LIKELY TO FORGET IT!

They have no idea what their incestors went through, just so that they could live the way the do today.

I have only one more thing to say.................PLEASE HAVE THEM PULL THEIR PANTS UP.  That look started in prison and if they want to experience that.........then so be it, but I PRAY with all my heart, that they realize just how good they have it.

Not all of blacks or whites are bad..........they just make bad choices that they can't take back and will follow them for the rest of their lives.

ONE MORE THING.......................DO THEY KISS THEIR MOTHERS WITH THEIR MOUTHS?

I think that everyone should be able to say the N-word or no one should be able to say it at all.

The N-Word

I agree with what this person said.  No one, under any circumstance should use this horrible word.  To use the N-word is to get an effect.  It is very offensive.  The woman in the audience, who says she was an attorney, married to a white man, is a disgrace.  She said that she and her husband use the N-word quite frequently to each other.  I, an African American woman, also have a relationship with a white man.  We would never think to use the word under any circumstance.  Its not cute, its not nice.  I don't use the word with my black friends, and ask them not to use it with me.   It may sound okay from one black to another, but, when any other race says the word, all hell breaks lose.  People should look the word up in the dictionary, maybe then they'll stop using it.  The dictionary says this:  The term N----- in all contexts, it is now generally regarded as virtually taboo because of the legacy of racial hatred that underlies the history of its use among whites, and its continuing use among a minority as a viciously hostile epithet.  To use it, shows total ignorance, brain dead, does not know how to move forward in life.

The adults is the ones who passed that word onto the young blacks who really don't know what is behind that word . The white slave owners is the ones who gave that word to black because they put blacks as the lowest thing on earth. Blacks are so stupid that they call themselves what the white slave owners already said what they were. including the KKK. What bothers me is that the blacks are trying to justifiy it and that is because of their ingorance. If a white call them the n-word so what they already saying they are less than human. Blacks wake up and start teaching the young  people who they are and how stupid they sound saying the n=word. Teach the young blacks how to have respect for themselves.

I am not an africanamerican, but I am offended when I hear the "N word" used even if it isn't used towards me.  The "N word" should be treated as the "F word" and never used.  It should never be placed in a history book for former words.  It should just be a forgotten word.

I am offended by the woman from the audience who said, "They should just get over it".  She should know how AfricanAmericans feel, after all women are disgriminated against all the time, just like AfricanAmericans. No, they were not born into slavery, but their distant relatives were.  And they were treated like they had some sort of disease of some kind, because they were only allowed to use public restrooms labled only for colored people, they were only allowed to drink out of drinking fountains just for their race, they were not treated equal at all.  Even ten years ago, I remember if an AfricanAmerican were to walk into a store that was filled with white people, the AfricanAmerican would get starred at as if they were holdhing a gun and robbing the store.

I live in Michigan, and as a child I was never allow any where near South of 8 mile because my parents were very against AfricanAmericans.  Even now, before I moved back home to Michigan with my two sons, my sister called to warn me that her accross the street neighbors were black.  I thought to myself, how sad my sister felt the need to tell me her accross the street neighbors were black.  I told her that they were her neighbors and it didn't matter what they were, including homosexuals.  We are Americans, and we need to stop giving each other lables and just refer to one another as just Americans.
