Dr. Phil revisits the topic of what makes a good wife. Grant and Kelly first appeared on the show because Grant expected his wife to live up to his demanding standards. He wanted a cleaner house, better meals and a sexier spouse. After seven years, his constant criticism and disappointment had her ready to throw in the towel on trying to become the "perfect wife." Dr. Phil’s first talk with Grant and Kelly caused quite a stir as thousands of viewers wrote in choosing sides. How are Grant and Kelly now? Has Grant abandoned his critical ways and his expectation of having a Stepford wife? And why is he no longer wearing his wedding ring? Talk about the show here.

Find out what happened on the show.

Thats horrible!  FOUR fractures!?  OhMyGod!   What a poor girly!  :(

How old is she?  Is she in alot of pain?    They are planning on letting the fractures heal themselves or is that what you will find out at the ENT?

Hope she isnt hurting too much and will recover quickly!  Take good care of her(think a little spoiling couldnt hurt with FOURomg fractures!) and please let us know what the ENTS say tomorrow!

She's doing a little better today.  Her face hurts (obviously)....Her eye is getting more black now than purple.  But she's up out of bed and downstairs on the couch now.....and she seems to not be sooo tired.

She's 10, and she's a trooper!!  They said they will heal on their own, but I guess the ENT will tell me more than that.  She only saw the ER doctor so far.

She had a lot of kid visit her yesterday, that made her feel good.  She's on a few prayer lists, too.

And Gramma is here totally spoiling her!!  I am too, but you know Gramma's are best at that.

Flylady saved my house

I so empathize with all the people that have trouble keeping up their house.  I (thankfully) found www.flylady.net and she REVOLUTIONIZED how I think about homemaking.  I recommend the website to anyone who has trouble with keeping up the house (or any part of it).  She can help anybody!!

You know you did!!  :)

We had a little accident here yesterday.  We live in an area that has hills all over, going up to houses, etc.

My daughter was walking to a friend's house down the street (on the flat part) and a kid on rollerblades came down the hill (in the middle of the street - it's like downhill skiing for them)...and lost control and accidentally slammed right into her.  Fortunately for him, he was wearing a helmet, but it was unfortunate for her!  His helmet slammed into the side of her head and knocked her unconcious.

Anyway, we went to the ER, she was vomiting and kept falling asleep, it was obvious she had a concussion.  Nothing prepared me for the results of the CT scan - FOUR fractures.  Two in her ocular orbit (one above the eye, one next to it) one skull fracture on the side of her head, and one in her sinus cavity.  As it turns out, the kid on the roller blades was probably going about 50 mph when he hit her.  He felt so bad , he came over and brought her cookies today and he cried when he saw her.  :(   We're off to see an ENT on Monday, I guess because of the fracture in the sinus cavity?  I don't really know, I guess I'll find out when we get there.  They said the fractures will heel, but today her eye is swollen shut, totally purple and she's pretty banged up.  :(

Anyway, so that's where I've been!  She's sleeping now....so what did I miss?

SCARY!!!!!

Was this your baby??? One of Dr. Phil's books (I think Family First) has a quote from someone famous that read (and I'm paraphrasing) "to have children is to decide to let your heart walk around outside your body."  Hope she's okay, and that your heart is too!!

An ENT is a good way to go is she has a fracture near her sinus cavity. I don't know if you read my earlier post about my own battles with sinus problems, but you want to make sure she doesn't have any bone fragments in her sinuses. If they get infected, the symptoms are not like a regular sinus infection, and antibiotics won't help.

What did you miss? Apparently, Grant took a day off from the message boards.....can't IMAGINE why he would want to do that!

Good luck to your daughter. I'm sure everything will be fine.

I happen to know that Grant and Kelly were going on vacation with their family.  So, let's hope they have some alone time away from the house!

She's my 10 year old, but yes, my baby (my first).  Her eye is black today (yesterday is was violet), and it hurts.  We've been doing tylenol and an antibiotic, they prescribed tylenol with codeine, but she's never had that before, so I'm waiting to see if it gets that bad.

She's alternating hot and cold, because her eye is swollen shut, they thought the warm compresses might help open it up.  Her friends have been visiting, and that keeps her occupied.

The first scan said this (if anybody can decipher, I would appreciate it GREATLY)

Brain volume is normal.  No intracranial hemorrhage, abnormal extra axial fluid or cerebral edema are demonstrated.  Right preseptal orbital swelling is present.  Nondisplaced fractures are present involving the lateral and superior walls of the right orbit.  Nondisplaced fracture is also present involving the lateral aspect of the right frontal bone anterior to the coronal suture.  Mastoid air cells and visualized sinuses are clear.

The second scan said this:

A CT scan of the facial structures in the direct coronal plane deomnstrates a fracture of the right anterior maxillary sinus wall which extends into the inferior orbital wall.  There is a fluis in the right maxillary sinus most consistent with hemorrhage.  A fracture to the right lamina papyracea cannot be ruled out.  No intraconal air can be seen.

Any idea what a lamina papyracea is?

We see the ENT on monday, so I guess he'll explain it, I'm just still a litte worried.

Anyway, I'll know more monday.

For Diana's daughter

Sincerely hope your daughter improves. I'm glad she was able to go home. Will say some prayers for her. I've been over on the Charles and Tracey  show board. :>) Your daughter is lucky. Guess it makes some of this seem unimportant and trivial. Wish you the best!!!

How horrible, Diana.  It sounds like it was painful-I would make sure her pain is controled.  I HATE uncontroled pain. It is unnecessary and causes stress response in the body-not good.

Lamina papyracea is the eye socket part of the skull .  Here is a good site for infor:http://ect.downstate.edu/courseware/haonline/labs/l29/st0201.htm.  The most important good news is "no intracranial hemorrhage". That means that her brain wasn't battered in the accident.

Yeah....It bothers me when he says "I can't help how she feels." It's like when people say something incredibly mean, wrap it up in the form of a joke, then blame the victim for not having a sense of humor.

I think Grant is intellectually gifted, and he has a wicked sense of humor, but he doesn't seem to connect to things he can't measure or control.

Hey! Since you did extend the invitation for toddler stories (to me, in fact). ...The other day, I took my newly potty trained three year old to the Y for swimming lessons. After the lesson, I took him in the women's locker room to change  and use the restroom. As we were leaving the stall, he announced to all the others Mommies and ladies in the locker room, "I LIKE to pee at the Y!"

FYI...the toilet was clean, but I do carry sanitizing wipes in my diaper bag!

Smile-how cute!  Little boys like to use bathrooms don't they?  When my guy was training, I'm sure I was in every public bathroom in town. I think he was just curious :)

It bothers me when he says "I can't help how she feels." Isn't it funny how we see some things the same and other things so differently.  I agreed with Grant that he can't be responsible for Kelly's happiness.  I also think Kelly is making a mistake in trying to be responsible for Grant's happiness. They can both make changes in how they behave and in how they treat each other, but we are all responsible for our own feelings.

I was concerned that Kelly said she needed Grant's validation.  I think it is dangerous to rely on someone else to let you feel your efforts are valid.  She needs to look within for that.

What Kelly needs is for Grant to express his appreciaion and love for her.  She needs to know that she is loved, desired and accepted by her husband.

Your message made it through. Please be aware that my medical knowledge is limited to my own recent experiences and ER reruns. But I did spend a lot of time obsessing on line when I was ill, and my Mom is a nurse, so see if any of this helps.

Any hemorrhage is bleeding, so it's sounds like there is no internal bleeding in her head. Good news. Edema is swelling (if you didn't hear that during your pregnancies, you are one of those hateful women who have trouble gaining weight when pregnant!!) All that seems normal to me, and they would not have sent her home if there was any real concern.

I looked up lamina papyracea online. It's a bone in the front of her nose.  It looks like they just want the ENT to make sure the nose isn't broken. She may have had some bleeding in her sinuses. They may not do this, but when I was a frequent visitor of the ENT, he often had to go up my nose with a microscope. It is uncomfortable, but not really painful. The worse part was he had to use a spray Novocaine, which drips down your throat and makes it difficult to swallow saliva. They may not do that, so I wouldn't scare her yet. It really isn't that bad.

Whatever you do, do NOT go online and start obsessing. It is a bottomless black hole that will suck all the rational thought from your brain. Just don't go there, it doesn't help. At all. It looks to me like they are just being precautionary. Again, VERY limited medical knowledge, but I am used to scary medical jargon that ends up meaning the simplest things.

Oh, many people are allergic to codeine. It gives me hives and hallucinations. Watch her after the first dose if you decide to give it to her.

Julie

Yeah,,,,the house doesn't seem to be the best location for Grant and Kelly. Maybe they could just travel....he could get a gig as a food critic!! LOL! Anyway, hope they have fun. I'm not the president of the Grant fan club, but they both deserve a break.

Don't waste your life

Many years ago I fell in love , married, and began trying to please a controlling man.  It wasn't possible.  No matter what I did, it wasn't enough.  After raising four great kids, putting myself through college and graduate school, and enduring 40 plus years of a marriage that became a living hell, I finally set myself free.  In the meantime, I have medicated myself with food, ruined my health, and nearly lost myself.  I am happier now than I have been in so long.

Listen to what your husband is saying!!!  It is ALL about him!  He has no interest in pleasing you.  He does not care about you, except in how you can please him.  He is a weak and sad man who wants out, but doesn't have the courage to say so.   (That is why he is not wearing his ring and being such a jerk.)  You can't fix that.  Make a clean break; take your children and leave.  Be a strong role model for them, and teach them to love themselves.  In doing this, you  ( and they) will be ready to give and accept unconditional love.  Don't wait until "the time is right."    It never will be, because you will think that he is going to "get it" or it is nearly his birthday or....Listen to what you know is right for you and your children instead of what you Wish .
