Topic : 03/09 Family Chaos

am i the only one who is tired to see that family on Dr. Phil?

This is like, their 4th appearance on the show now. Why don't they just split up from each other?

No there are two of us, and possibly more.  They are beyond help.

I thought this was going to be a rerun. But it's a NEW show? I'd like to hear from them in 6 months or a year to see if they've gone through with the therapy. I'm just embarrassed for them to be on revealing more problems.

This couple has some real problems and are willing to share their lives with us.  That in itself is braver than most of us are, and me for sure.  I wouldn't mind as many up-dates as Dr. Phil wants to give us.  

  

 In their last visit over half the family thought that they were "beyond fixing".  If Dr Phil can help them move from where they were to a healthier place, I for one would like to see it.  I've seen a lot of dysfunctional and not too much digging out of it to find healthy.  I could use a few pointers.  For the rest of you have solved all your problems- I can solve this one for you- DON'T WATCH!  I know I WILL! 

  

It appears this family is a dysfunctional mess. The mother is completely out of touch with feelings - hers and others. The father has been absent and in denial, and the kids have no understanding of boundaries. They all appear to be pathological liars. They appear to have no sense of what truth is, believing truth to be what they want to believe at the moment. They make all-encompassing statements, then qualifiers.  i.e. "I have never taken them to a porn shop... It wasn't a porn shop, it was a clean adult store." I was really surprised when Dr. Phil didn't confront them on this on the last show. Either Dr. Phil has met his match with this family, or he is in over his head.  

  

Dr. Karl Menninger, when asked what he would do if he sensed a mental breakdown responded, "I would lock up the house, go down across the tracks, find people who needed help, and help them."  For the next month this family needs to spend their days building a Habitat House, their evenings volunteering in a soup kitchen, and their weekends volunteering on a pediatric oncology unit.  

  

The novelist Peter De Vries made the statement, "One trip through a children's ward and if your faith isn't shaken, you're not the type to deserves any faith." 

  

This family needs to discover how to see beyond the end of their nose, quit looking for self-gratification, and get in touch with reality. In Eric Berne's Transactional Analysis terms, they are all just "playing games" looking for a "gotcha." 

  

Dr. Phil, don't get hooked in their games! 

  

  

I thought the last few times maybe this couple would get help. But, it seems as she cannot stop spending money. Boy, what a bad decidsion on her part.  This family needs a lot of help. Her credit cards should be taken away totally. So they don't go deeper down.

they have a nice home, and the husband has a good job and she is out spending money and still not happy.  No matter how much money they have, nice cars, or home you can't fill the emptiness inside of you.  Their so ungrateful for what they have and they are throwing it all away by spending what they don't have and in debt.  I hope Dr Phil can help them, but they have to do what he suggest and do the foot work or they will lose what they have.

Tnank goodness you are not a therapist, because the world would be in trouble.  I guess you like to see people do bad, and not get help.  I am so happy to see Dr. phil helping this family.  This is his job.  If you don't want to watch this show, simply turn it off!

Hey I think they are a "family in crisis"  One of Dr. Phils families, and I am happy to see whats changed, and what help they have gotten.
