(Original Air Date: 04/21/06) Being a parent is hard enough, but what happens when Mom and Dad can't agree on how many kids to have, how to raise 'em and how to get ‘em to sleep?  Sometimes, it can lead to an all-out baby war! Matt's baby battle ended up in front of a judge and made headlines. He was ordered to pay child support for the baby he had with his ex-girlfriend, but he says he shouldn't have to cough up the money because she told him she wasn't able to get pregnant, and he told her he didn't want to be a father. He, his attorney, and the director of the National Center for Men discuss the lawsuit they filed, known as “Roe v. Wade for Men,” arguing that men should have a constitutional right to avoid fatherhood. Next, Dan says even though he and his wife, Lisa, already have four children, he wants just one more. Lisa has been pregnant on and off for 11 years and says she's closed for baby business. Will Dr. Phil help Dan see Lisa's point that four is enough? Then, a frustrated husband is camping out on the roof of his house and living in a tent. He refuses to go back to his bedroom until his wife moves their kids out of their bed and starts paying more attention to him. Can Dr. Phil get him to come down the ladder? Plus, a sleep expert has a simple method for getting your child to sleep through the night. See the plan in action! Share advice and talk about the show here.

Agree w/ Matt 100%

First off, I'm a woman, married and have one child.  I've watched and read a considerable amount of news coverage of this story before.  I find the woman's behavior here to have been shockingly deceitful.  Accidents obviously happen, but Matt made clear to her that he didn't want a child and she told him she was *not* able to conceive and she was on birth control for other health issues.   If my husband had not wanted our daughter  I would most certainly not have expected him to help w/ her in the least.  I'm sorry, but I have zero sympathy for the woman here.  I'm sorry for the child, but I still feel Matt should not have to assume responsibility for her.  The woman lied, she gave Matt no choice - end of story.

Father's rights

If a mother decides to give her baby up for adoption and the father wants to raise the child, will the courts give the child to the father and force the mother to pay child support?

MEN WHO GET TRAPPED

I BELIEVE THAT YOUR WORD IS  ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT THINGS WE GIVE TO ANOTHER PERSON. MEN ARE TRAPPED EVERY DAY INTO FATHERHOOD. IN THIS CASE HE WAS UP FRONT WITH THE YOUNG LADY THAT HE BY NO MEANS WANTED CHILDREN, AND SHE GAVE HER WORD THERE WAS NO WAY SHE COULD CONCEIVE. AS FAR AS PROTECTING YOURSELF FROM GETTING PREGNANT, THE LAST TIME I HAD A CHILD IT WAS ME ON THAT DELIVERY TABLEAND I DECIDED AT THAT MOMENT THAT AS A WOMAN IT WAS MY RESPONIBILTY TO TAKE CARE OF MY BODY BECAUSE I AM THEY ONLY ONE WHO CAN DECIDE IF I WANTED TO HAVE CHILDREN. THE ARGUMENT OF IT TAKES TWO TO TANGO IS OBSELETE, IT ONLY TAKES ONE TO MAKE THAT CHOICE AND A WOMAN HAS THAT CHOICE. IF SHE GETS PREGNANT THEN SHE HAS THE CHOICE TO EITHER RAISE HER CHILD OR NOT, THE MAN SHE HAD SEX WITH SHOULD HAVE THE SAME CHOICE IF SHE DECIDES TO PROFIT FROM HIM FOR MAKING THAT DECISION.

don't do it

Quote From: jettav

then don't have sex and take chances or go get an operation!
The fact is that for so long women have fought to have rights to do with her body as she wants.  Should the father have the same choice?  Probably.  So in order to end this horrible confusion don't have sex until you are in a committed relationship in which you feel comfortable enough to discuss these issues.  Having sex so early is just not good and this is a good example of what can happen to young people.

Not a father?

How can he say that he's not a father?? the moment you decide to have a sexual relationship you automatically assume the responsibility that you may become a parent.

04/21 Baby Wars

If he is old enough to have sex hes old enough to take care of a child.  It sickens me to hear that there are men who want to choose when they want to be a father.  Opps not this one maybe in a few years, he needs to hold that baby and interact with her and maybe he will want to take care of her if not why did that woman have sex with such an idiot!!!!

04/21 Baby Wars

The law should protect the baby first and foremost.  These schleppy guys should stand up and do the right thing.  She was dishonest -ok so you've been had.  Tough - you're an adult.

If you want to play -- be prepared to pay.  Guess what people do lie in this world.  It is not right what she did absolutely!!!  But you need to take care of yourself  (wear that condom) and stop expecting

others to look out for YOUR best interest.  STAND UP AND DO THE RIGHT THING.  BE A FATHER.

You will regret the selfish decision-- I can assure you. You make the mistake AND you want the baby to pay the price.   GROW UP!!!!!!!!

Unequal - that's life...

Women have been subjected to laws that favor men for a very long  time.  When it comes to bearing children, men have the lower hand.  It is the woman's body, it is the woman's ultimate choice.  The minute a man chooses not to use a condom, he gives up control.  If a woman gets pregnant as a result, the woman has the last word, like it or not.  When it comes to pregnancy issues, like I said, men get the short end of the stick, for a change.

baby wars

I think this guy who does not want to even pick up his daughter-elizabeth and hug and hold her, is CRAZY. He should have worn a condom.

You are right Dr. Phil, that they should have discussed everything in advance.

Thanks
