(Original Air Date: 04/21/06) Being a parent is hard enough, but what happens when Mom and Dad can't agree on how many kids to have, how to raise 'em and how to get ‘em to sleep?  Sometimes, it can lead to an all-out baby war! Matt's baby battle ended up in front of a judge and made headlines. He was ordered to pay child support for the baby he had with his ex-girlfriend, but he says he shouldn't have to cough up the money because she told him she wasn't able to get pregnant, and he told her he didn't want to be a father. He, his attorney, and the director of the National Center for Men discuss the lawsuit they filed, known as “Roe v. Wade for Men,” arguing that men should have a constitutional right to avoid fatherhood. Next, Dan says even though he and his wife, Lisa, already have four children, he wants just one more. Lisa has been pregnant on and off for 11 years and says she's closed for baby business. Will Dr. Phil help Dan see Lisa's point that four is enough? Then, a frustrated husband is camping out on the roof of his house and living in a tent. He refuses to go back to his bedroom until his wife moves their kids out of their bed and starts paying more attention to him. Can Dr. Phil get him to come down the ladder? Plus, a sleep expert has a simple method for getting your child to sleep through the night. See the plan in action! Share advice and talk about the show here.

If you become a father, be a father!

Quote From: jettav

then don't have sex and take chances or go get an operation!

Oh, do I agree with you!  Men out there who are big enough to have sex, should be big enough to father a child!  If this creep thinks he's got a chance in this world and with

God, then he needs to take full responsibility for this little girl.  Because, look out!  She will come and find him in the future and make him feel like the fool he is!

Come on Men! Do the deed and plant the seed? Whatcha expect?

Sex was created for reproduction.  Yes, it is a enjoyment, too!  However, these men should make sure they have an honest spouse.  Maybe he should have looked more into her problem.

We will give her the benefit of the doubt, maybe she really did have some kind of problem with conception...  but a miracle happened.  God has his hand in all conceptions.  He was a part of that too!  If Mr. Father doesn't want to be Dad then give up your rights.  That mother has every right to keep that child.  Maybe he should learn next time to take better precausions or get fixed!

Get over yourself Mr. Father and give up your rights.

Everyone is forgetting...

Quote From: ravenhart

women have more of a right then a man when it comes to having kids because women are the ones that have to carry them ...... now if the men had the right and the women didn't ... women would have to carry babies against their will..... ok matt said he didn't want to be a father yet well then he should of worn protection to make sure she wouldn't get pregenet ..... now if it was a woman that didn't want to have kids and the man did... then what would he and she do???? ..... i just think since we women are the ones that have to carry the baby then we have more right ... but yeah its not right to get pregenet knowing the man didn't want kids yet .... yes women have the right to be able to carry a baby whenever they are ready to but we also have to make sure the man is ready

... women did not thave the right to chose until about 30 years ago. They had to have children, and it wasn't unheard of for men to force this on their women.

04/21 Baby Wars

I agree there should be an equal decision int his matter.I concerned that these 2 did not plan this  and of course it happened .i wonder if they have even sat down after the finding and talked about this .Accidence happen and you can't change that . i believe a father does have the right  to sign away his parental rights.sometimes this is the best option for the child.what child wants to be with a parent that does not want them.My main concern is if this gentlemen doesn't want child why not do something to protect himself. If this gentleman wins what is going to stop him from doing this again and knowing that the law is on his side.He could go out and knock up another girl and believe the law is on his side and refuse to except responsibility.Plus how is this going to affect our decisions. granted there are planned births but how is it going to be decided OK mother wants baby and father don't.or father want baby mother don't how will this resolved with out harming the child?i  was in the same situation only i was the child.my father didn't want me .i was adopted by a wonderful man who was honored to have me.so i pray this happens to this child.

Dead Beat Dads

I am the mother of 4. This was something my husband and I agreed on. He does help me with the children when he can. He wanted more children but my body just couldnt handle it. So WE made the choice to stop at 4. I have been blessed with a very thaughtful husband and he has my happiness in mind at all times. Good luck to all women that have men that just dont understand your feelings.

be responsible for your actions!!!!!!!!!

I am so sick of people, not just men, not taking responsibility for their actions!  You need to be responsible for yourself not rely on what some one else tells you.  If someone told you the gun was empty (even though you would trust them with your life)  would you put it to your head and pull the trigger?  Your actions resulted in a child, be a man and take responsibility for it.  Having sex is not just for having fun, it is for procreation and that is what happened.  Also being responsible for the child means not aborting it.

04/21 Baby Wars

I think that Matt and his whole team should get a reality check.  He said it himself.  Even using a condom you are NOT 100% covered.  My opinion is that if you can't stand the heat, DON"T play with fire!!  It is amazing that the lawyer had the opinion that the original Roe vs. Wade didn't get out of hand.  What in the world does he think about partial-birth abortion.  WHAT IS AMERICA COMING TO?!?!  God help us all!!!!  These men need to grow up and take responibility for their penises!  And I believe that if a father were the one to just drop off a child at a hospital, fire station, etc.  he has the same rights as the mother.  He wouldn't get into any trouble either.  GIVE ME A BREAK!

the guy crying about rights

k im aguy and im not gay (the one that dosent mean happy) and i think that she has the real chose becuz she had to do the labor.

but on the other hand he said no i dont want o be a dad and she said that there was no way she could get pregnat. so in a strang way i think the man should have the choce of a doption and then if she dose say no then they sould take it to court whice they did and then they should put the baby up for adoption for 1 mounth.or just put the baby in a house witch the mom can go for how ever long she wants to visit and the man dosnt have to worie he dosnt have to pay for somethimg he didnt want. its like it happend but they returned it to god (the people who take the baby). thats my opinon

I understand how you feel

Its typical Dr Phil would focus on something totally diferent then the point you are origonaly trying to make, as soon as we as men become a father, wether or not it was on purpose, the government automatically steps in, and without fail, the father is the one individual responsible. Equal rights? I dont think so, the law poses a stereotype unless the father can afford to take the mother to court in a costly fassion and prove her unfit. Yeah Dr Phil, lets worry about the children and whats best for them, doesnt mean you have to follow the stereotype, there are deadbeat moms, please dont throw me in jail for saying so though, i mrean i have the right to say that dont I? Most will see the phrase "deadbeat mom" and think pfff, no such thing. I am sick and tired of the dad always being the stereotypical bad guy. Am I a little upset about the child support issue? Well yeah, no one has ever sent me a weekly check while I sat around all week, for 2 whole years and took night classes a whole 2 nights a week, but what do I know, if im not paying child suport, I'm the worst person on the face of the earth.  I wish you, Matt? I think it was, the best of luck in your case, you're gonna need it with the stereotype.  I'm also wondering if good ole Dr Phil helped the mother write her statement, it was perfect wasnt it?

Matt is pathetic

I cant believe him.  Getting "legal" about all of that is just his immature way of trying to get out of it.  Wear a frickin condom you idiot!  And you did have a choice, "Hmmmm, wear a condom or take her word for it?"  Grow up and be responsible.

That baby deserves a loving mother and father, if you don't want to be a part of her life at least make sure she is safe and taken care of financially.
