(Original Air Date: 04/24/06) Have you ever been so fed up with your spouse's behavior that you’ve considered giving him or her an ultimatum? Dr. Phil talks to guests who say their marriage is on the rocks, and they need help reconnecting. Barbara calls her stepdaughter, Ambreah, "a monster." She says she inherited “the little thing" when her husband, Ed's, ex-wife was in a tragic car accident. Ambreah no longer lives with them, but Barbara says if Ed brings her back into their house, she'll leave. Should Ed be forced to choose between his wife and his child? Then, Bobby, a country music singer, says his wife, Danyel's, jealous ways are pushing him to the brink. She curses out other women, checks his cell phone records and accuses him of cheating on her. Bobby says if Danyel doesn't stop her behavior, he's ready to go solo. Is Bobby giving Danyel a reason to sing the blues? Talk about the show here.

Find out what happened on the show.

04/24 The Final Ultimatum

Quote From: pp0001

You knew going into the relationship a step-child was in the picture and you can't tell me that there were not red flags prior to your marriage that indicated there may be troubles.  If you can't handle the heat, get out of the kitchen!!
This sounds so like my friend.... be careful.  I know that it is not an easy situation but try not to let it get to you.  Don't sweat the small stuff.  If your husband takes her side then let him do the disciplining.  I also know that you are probably getting left with doing a lot of the household stuff as well as the caring for the stepchild... you are a brave soul and I applaud your need to stay with it.  Can you find common ground with your step daughter?  Use that as a starting place and talk about the situation with her.... she is old enough to be made an integral part of it.   Good luck!!!

give ME a break

Quote From: dannape

Here's my take....he' s complaining, that the woman gets the final decision, and it's not fair...so, when men are able to get pregnant, they THEY can make the final decision, until then, he needs to keep it zipped up!

That door swings both ways. When women can get pregnant withOUT a man's sperm then they should be able to make the final decision. Until then keep the skirt down.

Bottom line, pick a good woman....pick a good woman.

step parents

Dr Phil,

After watching todays show about the step mom & the 6 year old little girl.

I must say I agree with how you handled the situation.

I also have to say that I am surprized that the stepmom was honest enough to sit on national TV & tell her true feelings. That took guts. When I saw the previews I hated that woman! BUT after listening to her honesty I see where she was the one more worried about the little girl than the father.

I do hope that they get help & things work out either together or apart but work out for all of them!

That poor little girl must be so confused. Im sure that she feels if she likes her stepmom that she is turning her back on her real mother. This is a very sad situation BUT im glad it didnt have a unhappy ending.

The adults can move on with their lives BUT that child needs to feel loved & protected.

stepchildren

I could personally understand the stepmother in this story.  I had alot of trouble with my two stepdaughters.  My husband was awarded them through DSS in 1992.  It was the hardest 10 years of my life.  The oldest has alot of mental health issues and the youngest just had a lot of issues.  The younger of the two made up lies about me, got social services involved, and just continues to cause alot of problems between me and my husband.  The girls are now 21 and 22.  It seems like every time I think I am past that part of my life something comes up and its right smack dab in my face again.  On one hand I regret marrying the man I love (because of all the hurt it has caused) and on the other hand I love this man so much and we have the best son we could ever have.

Wedding Ring Blues

I can really identify with Danielle!  My husband is also a musician who refuses to wear his wedding ring while performing.  He won't come out & pretend that he's single but he sure won't volunteer the fact that he's married either!  It used to bother me even though I know he has not & will not cheat on me.  I think his excuse about not wanting a ring on his left hand while playing guitar is just that, an excuse.  However, he's stubborn & I've always believed that you have to pick your battles.  I have been known to go out without my wedding ring a time or two just to prove a point!  I know my husband loves me and would not be unfaithful so I've learned to let the little things go.

FUNNY

Quote From: april35

I think she is self centered and she got preganent on purpose.  She wants the money.  She i s confused and on the fatal attraction side.
I highly doubt that she got pregnant on purpose. Have you ever been with a musician who is trying to break through, there is no money.......As far as her being a little over dramatic about him cheating ,com'on now. Go out and watch him and have fun your self, make it kinda a grils night out thing. Flirt with other guys and I can bet it will turn him on. Start from day one type thing...Thats what i do, but thats just me.

were you ever a stepchild????  it sounds like you were just jealous of them considering you had a child who turned out so perfect by the same man who had 2 kids that were so awful.

04/24 The Final Ultimatum

In listening to today's show, I am curious if Dr. Phil would give the same advice to a father  whose child was 18 years or older.  When is the parent no longer morally responsible for taking care of their children.  My husband had two boys from a previous marriage, and his son who was 18 at the time came to live with us and we did not get along.  should i have left to allow the son to live with his dad?
