The purpose of this board is to debate your views about a particular religion or belief. I understand Religion is a touchy subject, but this board is designed for you to ask questions as well as present arguments for your particular Religion or belief.

You can definitely challenge others, but no calling others names. Feel free to debate away.

Yeah...Mim...I think EVERYBODY believes it's exactly the way you say it is....even Cheryl.  She is just continually trying to put ALL Christians (well not all....especially Catholics) in the best possible light she can.  It's a head game to convince others that her brand of Christianity always has sound reason for their mean acts.

Also I think I need to explain to you....a few days ago when Cheryl was "speculating" on why this happened to Tina....I did some "speculating" myself.  However...I was being totally sarcastic.....LOL!  I hope you don't think I really took any of those things into consideration....

Until you tell us different...I believe it's EXACTLY the way you say.

Hope you're having a good morning!

No worries!  I knew you were being sarcastic in your speculations.  LOL

The truth of the whole thing is I so very much WISH I could go to Tina and tell her, "Darlin', this has nothing to do with you and is all MY fault!  Im afraid I dropped an f-bomb one day around your friend when I burnt my finger no the stove.  So see?  Its not YOU Tina, its MOMMY!"

If I could tell her that, or any other such made up story, I would have done it already.  No way I could as I would lose ALL credibilty with her and the discussion would end the second I gave her some fake reasoning.

All I can do is what ive done.  Deal with the truth of the situation in the best way possible.  But I sure do WISH I could give her some bs story and take all the blame for it!  More than anything, I wish I could!  :(

LOL...okie dokie...(heavy sigh of relief....)

...and I get what you mean.  I too wish I could put EVERYTHING on me....involving my kids then that would make the world and life appear better and solve these problems.

Of course...even if you did blame yourself and told Tina so....it wouldn't make the harsh reality for Tina better....

Knowing Tina as you do.....I doubt you telling her that (even if there was some truth based in it which of course there isn't)......she wouldn't accept it nor feel better about it.

Tina seems wise beyond her years......she totally wouldn't accept that you dropping the "f" bomb upon sudden pain.....as reasoning for her friend to reject HER.

It might even make Tina more angry...as if SHE is little more then an extension of you.  It's nonsensical.....even to a young adult.

If there was any truth to some other reasoning, besides than the simple fact that Tina wasnt a Christian, she WOULD accept it and believe it.

Since there ISNT any other reasoning other than shes just not Christian, for me to try and come up with some false explanations, would be the worst thing I could do with her.

As much as I would like to lie to her to try and ease the pain of the situation, that would only work against me.  We both know its exactly as the girl said and trying to run from that, trying to change it into something its not, isnt going to help anybody.  Especially my child.

Good day everyone!

Firefighters' Lawsuit against City Over Forced Participation in Gay Pride Parade Ends in Mistrial
http://www.lifesitenews.com/ldn/2008/oct/08100703.html

By Thaddeus M. Baklinski

SAN DIEGO, October 7, 2008 (LifeSiteNews.com) - The suit filed against the city of San Diego by four firefighters who were commanded against their wills to drive a fire truck in the city's "gay pride" parade has ended in a deadlock among the jurors; a mistrial has been declared.

Charles LiMandri, West Coast director of the Thomas More Law Center and attorney representing the firefighters, called the mistrial "extremely frustrating" and is awaiting a new trial scheduled for January 16, according to a San Jose Mercury News report.

The firefighters were ordered to ride in the parade by Assistant Chief Jeff Carle, who testified that he was aware that the parade was offensive but defended his actions, saying, "I was faced with not having an engine in the pride parade. I didn't think it would be proper to be absent in that parade when we're present in almost every other one."

The four men said the sexually explicit environment at the parade was so vulgar and disturbing that each of them sought therapy after the event.

"You could not even look at the crowd without getting some type of sexual gesture," one firefighter said. "If any crew member were to hang up pictures at the station of what we saw, we would be disciplined."

Eight of the 12 members of the jury felt the firefighters were subjected to sexual harassment, but that was one short of what was needed to move the trial forward.

Juror Helene Matthews told Mercury News reporters she felt the firefighters were sexually harassed but that others on the panel "dug in from the get-go and were not willing to change their minds or think differently."

"Whether you're gay, whether you're straight, whatever, none of us should have to go into the workplace and be subjected to things that go against our morals," Matthews said.

Jury forewoman Susan Wolking said she also felt the firefighters were wronged but that the jury wasn't even close to agreement.

Debating Among Different Religious Beliefs

Quote From: sugarboog

If you say you re not out "damning the rest of the world"...I have no reason not to believe you.

However, I had found Fundamentalist Christians to be exactly the way I describe them...without exception.

Perhaps you are the exception rather then the "rule".

I'm not doubting that you have met some "damning people to hell" Christians, but chances are I probably know more Evangelical Christians than you do, and I can tell you most of them are not out there telling people they are going to hell.

I can share with people what the Bible says, but I don't have the authority to determine who is and who isn't going to hell. It's, as Obama said, above my pay grade. I wouldn't want the authority anyway. My only job is to spread the word, it isn't my job to save people. That's between them and God.

I have shared my story with just about everyone who knows me. My non-believing friends and family know exactly where I stand in my faith. I have never forced my religion on them. Do I pray for them? You bet, but I know I don't have the power to change people, only the Lord can change people.

Maybe I am just an exception to the rule, but I can promise you there are more exceptions out there than you think ! Maybe we are what you call the silent majority!

LOL!

Youre too funny, Cheryl!

The point is anything but "moot".  Unlike you, we know this girl.  Know her family life.  Know how she has been raised.  Know a whole heck of alot of things about her.  When she told Tina she couldnt be friends with her anymore cus she wasnt a Christian she meant exactly what she said.

I see nothing I say will have you believing that.  Thats cool.  I dont care.  Im just glad there ARE people on board who have been willing to accept what I say as truth and to show me and my daughter some compassion, understanding, support, concern and love.

THANK YOU to EVERYONE who offered up support and understanding, compassion and concern for Tina and me regarding this unfortunate situation.  HUGS for YOU!  :)

This really is an unfortunate situation. I hope you have used this as a teachable moment with Tina.

Unfortunately some people are very intolerant. I feel sorry for this girl. She is being taught to judge people based on religion. I have always taught my kids that it is OK not to be friends with everyone, but they should have a really good reason not to. I don't think a person not being a Christian is a good reason. To me you should only judge someone on character. If my child was to came home and say I don't like so and so because they lie all the time, that is a legitimate reason not to be friends. If they came home and said they don't like someone because they are Jewish, we would have a talk because that isn't a good reason!

It's a good lesson for your daughter about tolerance. As much as it hurts now, in the end it will only make your daughter a better person.

You MUST be the exception.

Most I know continue saying "you HAVE to be saved..have to have Jesus, or you're going to hell." Things like that....or those types of implications. ALL fear based ways of getting people to convert.
