The purpose of this board is to debate your views about a particular religion or belief. I understand Religion is a touchy subject, but this board is designed for you to ask questions as well as present arguments for your particular Religion or belief.

You can definitely challenge others, but no calling others names. Feel free to debate away.

Debating Among Different Religious Beliefs

Quote From: sugarboog

It takes a man and a woman to produce a child. There ain't no getting around that.

Sure, any animal can produce offspring as well.  It's how a person is raised in that have love, support, nurturing, (whether it be one parent or two) that determines the outcome of the future adult.  Some people believe genetics plays a part in that as well but in that case it wouldn't matter if the parents were loving, committed to each other and nurturing and the child would still be conceived by a male and female.

Certainly the situation of a mom and dad who are in love and committed is ideal, however, it could also be ideal if it were just one parent, or two parents of the same sex.  Depends on the person or people.  Not just some obscure fairy tale of how life is "supposed to be".

LOL! Exactly! As if getting sperm to hit an egg is some sort of Herculean task that requires love, commitment, integrity, etc. Sometimes "nature" happens as the result of too much tequila and  faulty condom!

Procreation is essentially animal instinct. Parenting is a whole different issue.

Okay...NOW I am really leaving!

I have met many married heterosexual men (and fathers!) who think monogamy is impossible or at least unrealistic! LOL! I turned them down not so gently!!

Ahhh yes !!!  So did I when I was in between husbands....lol.

There are certain cultures that promote a man having a mistress as well.

I dated one once that said it was expected for the man to have many mistresses throughout his married life !!!  Oh and yes Candice !!  they were Christians.

Take care Julie !  I gotta go as well !

Debating Among Different Religious Beliefs

Wow it got crazy in here.  I would jump in but I just didn't think I could debate away today.  And I love it so.  LOL.  Wow first thing I have to say you can't label a group base on one or two people you know. not matter what it is about them.

Next HI penny and julie!!

Another....some people say that it is so hard to live thier life that god wants them too.  (usely christians I hear this from)  And that is why they were given the bible.

But if god gave you a book with step by step insturcation (sp) to live your life then how is it so hard.  Also wouldn't someone from a faith or belief that doesn't have a book to look to every time some went wrong have it hard because they truely have to have faith in thier god to help them get through it?

I mean i have heard time and time again people saying that they found the answer in the bible.  Heck I have even had someone tell me that you have faith unless you have a book.  And that I couldn't find the answer with out it.  Well many times I have because I know that i have what I need and asked for before I came here.  I have faith that I will not go through something just because god wants to test and that I am truly testing my self when I go through something.

I show my faith every day in the way I live my life and the choices that I make and yes I don't always make the right one but I try.  I live my life that is true and not hiding my beliefs....I don't hid them from my family but I don't push them either.   I live it open and honest and do my best to answer people questions.  I share it with my children and spouse.  And i talk to the mother and father everyday like some talk to their god.

Just because i am not a christian doesn't mean that i don't live my life with my faith...just because I don't have a book telling me what is right and what is wrong doesn't mean I don't know how to live.  I cherise every moment and I find that my faith at times does change a little here and a little there.  More I live and the more I look for my path the more I learn thus the changes in my beliefs.  I am sure there is a mother and a father.  (i would go on to talk about a dream once were I talked to him but I am sure some would think it was an lcd trip....though I have never done that).

I don't know sometimes I think it is hard for one to have faith and live it every day with out a book telling us what is write or wrong.  With out us telling us how to live so we can be happy to die.  I believe we should live to live today and not worry about what happens later.

What is there to debate?

I don't quite understand the point in debating religion. A person's religion is simply their belief. It doesn't matter if some body else doesn't agree with it. It is like debating one's belief in ghosts and werewolves or Area 51 and the Moon landing.
People believe what they choose to believe. It works for them at some level, and as long as they aren't hurting any one else, who cares what their beliefs are? I think every one is entitled to have faith in whoever or whatever they choose.

Debating Among Different Religious Beliefs

Quote From: lisa0801

I've never known of someone's religion to interfere with  any one else's civil rights. Not in modern-day US, anyway. My civil rights haven't been compromised, and I live in a community with diverse faiths. Which civil rights are you referring to?

Well one of the first ones I can think of is gay marriage.  why is it they can't marry?  because it bugs people of certian faith.

Ok well some back ground first... I have many many dreams that come true from the smallest things to really big things.  I have also done something called 7 doors with friends of mine where I was like mediating and a saw this man....dressed all in white and how I had at the time always thought god to look like.  I didn't talk to him that time because I smart butt friends that brought me out of it.

Years later like 5 I had another dream man looked different but I knew it was the same man.  We talked and he told me to follow my heart and life was only as hard as i made it.  and not to worry about my mistakes because in time I would see the wonders and lessons in them.

It brought me great peace.  And then one other thing he said was that he and mother were always looking out for me and I would never come across something in my life that I hadn't planed on or couldn't handle.

I know that this doesn't sound like much but for me and at the time it brought great peace.  Helped me through a rough time in my life.

I wish I could remember more...some that I do remember is too personal to share sorry.

That is because we have a democratic system, and the majority vote changes laws. More people need to push for that to get it passed in their state. I know people who are not religious at all that oppose gay marriage, their belief is not faith-based, but still anti-gay marriage. In that case, it is another's belief, but not necessarily a religious belief.

I get your point entirely Charise.

Although there are folks, many I suppose, that go to church and read the bible and try to live by the bible because they find comfort, truth and love in those things, there are just as many that go to religion as a crutch, IMO.

Many of these folks enjoy pointing the finger, at other people, simply because this is their make-up and they found religion a wonderful source of supply to judge, criticize and feel superior to others.  Or may I say they try, more often, to make others feel inferior to them....and more often then not...fail miserably.

Needless to say that this is not a way to live and especially to use "God" as a vehicle for one's own personal agenda of attempting to gain a status of superiority.

I don't know sometimes I think it is hard for one to have faith and live it every day with out a book telling us what is write or wrong.  With out us telling us how to live so we can be happy to die.  I believe we should live to live today and not worry about what happens later

Agreed.  Some folks on here debate that we "need" the bible or we wouldn't be able to tell right from wrong.  This is so silly, there are other religions that don't use the bible, in other countries and they know the difference between right and wrong.  It is universal.  Most everyone in the world knows that wrong is:  Hurting themselves, someone else or the environment.

Right is:  Having compassion and understanding for your fellow man/woman and helping as much as possible.

There are other "right" things but it would be too lengthy to list them all but you catch my drift.  However, there are only a few "wrong" things.

However, some folks seek control, and in doing so they would rather attack the person.....then the deed.  They are much more concerned with control and superiority then the things they find "wrong" in the world.  So they pick up the bible and shove it into people's faces as if to say, "SEE!!!  GOD IS ON MY SIDE....NOT YOURS....HAHAHAHAHA"

So silly and immature and certainly not God like.  They are only fooling themselves because most see them for who they are.

Just for the record I'm not pointing out anybody on this board.  I don't know these folks so I don't know how they go about their lives.   Just an observation I've made with many people I've known personally.
