If there are any other people in this world sick and tired of gas prices ....finally have the chance for you yourself to do something about it....as many of you know the head of gas in this economy is of course exon and mobile...... what if these two organizations didnt have the ability to sell gas such as people just not buying it.... What would happen?    As you have seen in the past if a company can not sell the high priced gas that it has already purchased then they must lower their prices to get rid of it or lose hundreds of thousands of dollars.....So what do you think would happen if people just stop buying gas from these stations for a while?     They will eventually have to lower their prices!!!!!   and once they do everyone else will have to because they cant sell theirs due to exons and mobiles being so cheap!   So STAND UP AND FIX THIS PROBLEM FOR YOURSELVES   stop for a while buying gas from these big wig companies and lets see how long their gas prices can stay at 3.00 dollars a gallon here in the US.    All it will take is just driving across the street to get gas or driving a little farther to fill up for a while ..... We all will be able to reap its rewards once you do and for many that means quiting that third job they had to have just buy gas for the week........WE CAN DO THIS.....ESPECIALLY SINCE THE MONEY MAKING GOVERNMENT CANT SEEM TO GET A HOLD ON IT.  Have any questions or replys please quote back.....                  ABURKES

Don't Buy Brand Name

Quote From: jerirob

It’s not that we pay too much per gallon for gas – Europeans pay much more and have for years – it’s that the gas and oil barons get to rip us off with such impunity.   The $400 million retirement package that the Exxon mogul recently received, which was in addition to his already enormous salary and benefits, made me sick to my stomach.  And this is the same guy who was sending memos out years ago about how to deflect criticism related to global warming.  The incredible greed, cynicism and self-interest of these bloodsuckers appears to be boundless. They are all bad, but Exxon Mobil seems to be worse.  That’s why I say BOYCOTT EXXON MOBIL.

If you are buying Exon-Mobile, Shell, Conocco, etc. you are usually paying to much for gas.  Off-brand name gas is the same thing as brand name gas  or cheaper brand names such as Citgo and you are getting the exact same product.   For most cars the fuel grade doesn't matter either and you are no better off with the more expensive fuel grades that the cheaper ones.   And even more so pay cash or your gas don't charge it.  You will realize just how much you are spending and this will encourage you to cut back on how much gas you are using.   Charging gas and groceries is one of the biggest financial mistakes people make.

PETROL PRICES ARE ALSO VERY HIGH IN...

Australia, too.

We pay by the litre and right now the price is back up to $1.40 per litre in some parts of the country like here in Sydney where I live.

It's just so wrong as the Petrol companies here in Australia are making heaps of profits of well over $170,000,000.00. So it's not like the petrol companies can't afford to lower the price of fuel to make life abit easier on the familes that are really finding it hard to find the money each week for petrol let alone food as well!!

Also our Govt could lower some of their taxes that they have on fuel as well, but they will not come to the aid of the party so to speak!! They would rather see people go poor than to help their fellow man if you know what I mean!!

Just got to hope that one of these days things will get better!! Take Care, Love Kelly.

Greed?

Quote From: willow3

I agree with what you posted. Gas prices are rising because of greed, not because there is a lack of it.

Willow

 On whose part?
If you own a car and depend on it to get you places, of course you are greedy about obtaining gasoline at a price that you think is fair.
The reality is that prices would be cheaper right now if we were self-sufficient, if we drilled all or most of our own oil. We don't drill all of our own oil because we as a voting entity chose not to drill here in the USA. Remember when GW Bush first came into office and put it to the public, to open up Alaska for drilling? Yes, folks, you are reaping what you have sown. And I'm not advocating that we destroy pristine wildernesses for oil. We voted not to drill here for some very good reasons, but we didn't take into account future scenarios, like being dependant on the middle east for our supplies. We didn't say, "Ok, we're are not going to be self-reliant for energy, but we need to start getting serious about alternative fuels NOW so we are not dependant indefinitely.
Our oil companies buy it from the middle east and refine it here for use. We are NOT at the mercy of OUR oil companies, we are at the mercy of  the oil producing countries of the middle east. And you can all see how stable that area is. They can jack us around because there is plenty of competition for the oil and there are more countries joining the competition as I write this.
WAKE UP and demand our people in Washington to get behind the switch to something else!

Citgo gets it's oil supplies mainly from a certain country in South America, which is keeping more and more of it's supplies for itself, or selling to those nations that are willing to pay higher prices for it. (Like China, India, and the former Soviet countries.) I know this because I know someone who works at the Citgo offices here in the US. Are they greedy or just using good business sense.
We are not entitled to low gas prices. We can b**ch and moan about it, but that doesn't change the reality of what's going on in the world.
How bad will it have to get before we start acting like the Americans before us who relied on ingenuity and invention and not like spoiled entitled brats?

ANYONE ELSE SICK OF GAS PRICES? DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!!!!

Quote From: trigreen

I blame both the corporations and the people.

I am totally sympathetic to people who drive small cars or hybrids who complain about gas prices.  But people who drive around in SUVs and Trucks and complain about gas prices just annoy me.  Did it occur to you that you would have to put gas into the SUV/Truck?  Did it occur to you that it would take a lot more gas?   Do these people even know that SUVs/Trucks are less safe including for those in the SUV/Truck than normal cars?    I get a good laugh when I see/hear about people you used to own SUVs/Trucks getting them reposed because they can't afford them anymore, who know have to take the bus because they wasted all their money on an inferior product that is far more expensive than a normal car.   People in Europe are smart enough to know this and to buy regular cars for there families.  Only in America!

The other things that sickens is people who are perfectly healthy and capable of walking(usually in SUVs) that drive about 2 blocks to get somewhere (and we wonder why Americans are so fat).   Case in point:  there was a resturant 2 or 3 blocks from where I was taking a class for work.  Most of the people who went there for lunch got in there cards and drove there.

The point is yes we are being completely gouged and cheated, but it isn't like we can't do anything about it!

I AGREE! I live in a very small town so luckily most places - library, etc. are in walking distance. I have two babies so I take the stroller. My friend and I take turns driving to the closest metro area once a week to buy groceries, and take the kids out. we used to drive a coule of times a week separately but have learned our lesson. I get frustrated with my hubby because he complains, yet doesn't carpool with two other men who work for the same company and live in our town. There are also two more on the way to his work. we spend close to $90 a week for him to drive to town. They may not be as much as others are paying but it hurts all around. We live on one income. my car stays parked 6 days a week unless it's raining and I have to get out.

I also think that the prices are somewhat due to our high demand.

Dear Trigreen,

I just wanted to say that I am very happy that there are still Americans left who aren’t as shortsighted and undereducated as some others in this forum. I am also happy to see that oil prices are a problem for Americans and hope they will look for alternatives of which some are very easy to implement. I totally agree what you said about the SUVs and short distance car usage.

Let me add to this that America is still the number one energy users (or wasters from European perspective) in the world and have the highest ecological footprint pro person, so I would like to stretch this topic from oil specifically to energy usage in general. Personally I think there’s a huge responsibility and opportunity for governments to educate people about energy consuming products (from cars to fridges et cetera). Let me ask you some questions: to what extend do governments in the USA inform their people about this subject (energy usage in general)? Do you need to pay extra taxes if you own cars which are energy consuming (like SUVs)? Are products tagged with labels informing about their energy usage?

Science Fiction

It appears we have some science fiction fans here at mister Phils forums! Perhaps its time to bring some of you back to the wonderful world of REALITY, would you like that? Most likely you're all still happely content in your small community of like minded critters who all agree with eachother though, but I'm going to give it a futile attempt in the hope of at least cracking some of your thick skulls!

I hear some people talking about how there is plenty of gas/oil in the world so they should make it cheaper.

The internet isnt called the information highway for nothing people, use it for something other then complaining and downloading porn ;)

Some examples of information you can find:

-Oil companies are having a really hard time finding new oil fields to keep up with demand, not even talking about the near future when countries like China and India are becoming more and more industrial and thus soon demanding more oil then the rest of the friking world combined.

-Most of their "profit" goes into the finding of new oil fields, they spend billions a year on this.

-Your beloved America has stocked up enough Oil to keep the country running for a few years without import. Though not totally stupid (seeing your not the most beloved country around), this does tend to drive the prize up of course.

-Russia, becoming more and more important in the oil game is cranking out oil pipes like a madman to fill the gaps that are falling where other oil companies cant keep up demand. Recent studies show that they most likely cant fulfill their contracts anymore by the year 2011.

Just look around yourself, there are many, many examples around that give you some actual facts that indeed, there is NOT enough oil anymore. (guess who's one of the leading countries in oil usage per head of the population btw)

Right next up; why is the prize actually so high?

Think back just a little bit. It started with 9/11, oil prizes shot up to new records. Now track the oil prize trough the recent years and compare every new record with actions the US has taken. The US is the single most important factor why your own (and ours thank you very much) damned prizes are so frikin high.

And what do you do in responce to this? You give the so called "president" in your white house another four years to mess up the world. Meaning you guys actually agree with all that stuff..

Looking at your responces I'm actually beginning to think Bush is most likely the smartest one around in the good 'ol US of A and there for he's the one leading the rest. (In the land of the blind, one-eye is king! as a saying goes here in the netherlands) And frankly that thought is scaring the hell out of me..

Please proof me wrong and start using the internet to find some information about things you wanne complain about and dont just blatently shout stuff and generally act dumb. Al gore didnt invent it for nothing ;)

I won't argue with this opinion, it's a sad fact.
There was a showing of "green" homes being built in Arizona, in other words, energy efficient, eco-friendly homes. One of the appliances that the builder was proud to display was an energy efficient clothes dryer. In Arizona. Where temperatures run high and humidity is very low because it's a desert.
Europeans look at this and ask, "What's wrong with the clothes line? What could be more energy efficient?" I was in Scotland a couple of years ago, where humidity is  high and showers are frequent. They dry linens outside all the time.
Only we in America realize that our stupid Home Owners Associations have taken it upon themselves to ban clotheslines because they are not "aesthetically pleasing to the neighborhood." And who runs these HOAs? The people who live in the neighborhoods.
We definitely need to pull our heads out of the dark and uncomfortable places we shoved them up.

Best regards,

Homer, the big Dutch Dr. Phil fan!

Please share some easily implemented alternatives for conserving energy. I watch what type of appliances I buy, carpool, buy as much as I can from local farming co-ops, garden and can, use cloth diapers...I'm really trying here. Although others aren't always as receptive as I would like, I hope to teach others by example(carpooling with neighbor to nearest metro area, etc.) I am very upset with fellow Americans who choose to live by the motto, 'The newer and bigger it is, the better it must be!'

I have a feeling I'm going to step on some toes here but the way I see it, as a society, Americans over indulge on many things. We overmedicate, overwork, overeat... We want a quick fix for many things. From my understanding, America is one of the fattest countries in the world. Everytime you turn on the tele you see commercials for a little pill or gel that is going to 'cure' your obesiety problem. I understand there are extreme cases, but in general, instead of walking everyday and eating proportionate meals, we want a pill to make it go away. Recycling and buying recycled is too much work. I am amazed when I go to the store and see disposable wash cloths, disposable spoons, disposable cups, and that's just for the babies. Are we too lazy to wash what we have used? What ever happened to hanging your clothes out in the summer? We probably throw out more trash than any other country and that is a guess, mind you. We buy our children cars when they are 16 instead of teaching them the importance of riding the bus and conservation in general. It breaks my heart, but I am convinced that with each generation, more people will raise their children as I do mine and it will get better. I only hope it isn't too late.
