Whenever Dr. Phil walks down the street, people ask: “What’s going on with Marty, Erin, Alex and Katherine?” This divided family first came on the show when their 15-year-old daughter, Alex, was pregnant and her condition was ripping their lives apart. Alex has accomplished a lot in three years. Get an update on her son, Nathan. Plus, Alex’s younger sister, Katherine, felt anger and resentment about the pregnancy and the constant chaos in her parents’ marriage. Find out how she’s been coping, and hear the burning question Marty has for Dr. Phil. Then, see the amazing surprises in store for this family! And, Dr. Phil follows up with another unforgettable guest, April. She was the anorexic bride, whose husband ended their marriage over the phone. How is she adjusting to life as a single woman? Talk about the show here.

Find out what happened on the show.

Yeah, what's the story on Erin?

Quote From: firstthess

I agree.  We want to hear from Erin.  She is holding down the fort?
I thought it was very very strange that Erin was "holding down the fort" whatever that means. Then there was almost zero footage of her at home with the other 3 family members and no discussion of her. WHAT'S THE STORY????

Welll then........

Quote From: lboquet

As for the teen dad, his parents wanted rights to see the baby which Alex bitterly fought. MINE! she said.
Remember, there was a lot of advertizing that had to pay for this .. enough said, and Dr Phil even said in his dialogue, "this is advertisement enought for Chevy"... not exact words, probably should have used the other paraenrthesis.. but anyhow.... I thought the show was great... you know what?...................  No one knows what is happening behind closed doors... and should we be allowed to intrude in their life further?  So the girl made a mistake by being "felt love" and wound up with an absolutely adorable child...  he was cute, comeon, you got to admit to that.....  and if this whole ordeal did make the family better within themselves, then hey?  Did I mention creaking doors... tell me of one relationship that hasn't had it's problems.. and I will bring to them a gold halo...

If anything, feel more for the lady that is still suffering from her condition of an eating disorder....  Now that is too reality.

I am not brown nosing, but, really, both stories were right on the money with respect to things going from bad to worse and things going from worse to "getting better" eventually..

and then Oprah did a kick in with more reality or "infidelity".... it was a sobering 2 hrs .....

Alex isn't doing fine

Quote From: abigfanabc

I only got to see part of the show today, but from what I saw, she's doing fine.  In fact, for someone who got pregnant at 15, she's doing great.  It looks like she'll go to college, get a degree, get the job of her dreams and save her money and buy a house.

Now don't get me wrong, I'm happy for her, but for someone who didn't do it "right" she's getting along pretty well.

Now take someone like me - I graduated high school with pretty good grades, but I didn't get to go to college (I couldn't afford it - back then they didn't hand out scholarships to just about everyone like they do today).  I've worked since I was 13.  I got married and 7 years later at the age of 28 got pregnant for the first time in my life.  Then after 20 years of marriage (with financial problems the entire time), I got divorced, and now at the age of 44 (45 in one month!), I am struggling on my own trying to raise a 16 year old daughter - who has managed to get this far without being sexually active and getting pregnant - I guess I'm doing something right.

I would love to own my own home one day, but I don't see that happening.  How do people afford houses today?  I don't understand it.  And how does someone like me, living paycheck to paycheck, do it?  I'm sure the girl "who did it all wrong" will own a house before I do.

Alex's mom is a hard driven real estate agent. Dad and the kids are along for the ride. If Alex gets her own house - mom  (or Dr. Phil) will have bought it for her. Anything Alex gets she will piss away. How may young men have passed through? Were she to live on her own would this be good for the  kid she is semi interested in raising?

Are you the same person when you were when you were 15, 16, 17...18?  I know I'M not!

My heart went out to Erin when this family frist come to TV to share their story.  I was looking forward to seeing and hearing from Erin.  Oh, sure the girls are prettier than ever.  Dad is all smiles.  And the baby is a "doll".  But Erin was NOT there!  "FAMILY" means just that .  A new saddle for one and a new pickup for the other....yet another trip for dad.  Sooooo when does Erin get recognition.  I still feel that this family is not complete or mom would have been with the FAMILY.  And when is something special done for her????

Erin was "holding down the fort" when this story aired.  It seems that she is still "holding down the fort".  My heart goes out to her.  She has "weathered" more than one storm and more than one at a time.  Seems the "sun is shining" for some and not for others.

My heart goes out to her and my thoughts are with HER!

shocked

Quote From: jd4520

I just watched the Dr. Phil Family update. I must say that I am a little dissappointed in the rewards given to these girls.  I watched this family when this first aired and really felt bad for their situation.  But look around.  They have a 2 parent family, an obviously nice place to live with horses, barns, etc.  We farm and work very hard for what little we have. We have 6 kids from 18 years to 7 years old. They all work very hard and we can do so little for them.  None of them are single parents, or involved with drugs and alcohol.  We watched some of this show and were shocked that this 18 year old girl gets a new truck and the other gets a custom made saddle.  FOR WHAT!!  Being a good mom?  How do I justify this to my hard working kids.  Now this 18 year old single mom, whom I assume still lives at home drives a brand new truck and my husband & I can barely keep our old klunkers going.  And gee, all we have done is try to raise 6 kids, stay married and be good role models for our kids, don't drink and sleep around either.  Not to mention trying to stay afloat with $2.80 diesel for our old tractors.  Sorry, I just don't get it.

My husband and I were shocked to see the expensive rewards these girls got. This family appears to have a good income with the beautiful house and barns and animals. Most of us could not afford one horse for our kids but they have more than one. Is that why the more expensive gifts? Because they could afford to buy cars and saddles for the girls so these gifts had to be special?

Alex and Kat seem to be great kids and headed in the right direction to live a purposeful life. And we wish them and their parents good wishes for the future. We also really think Dr. Phil is a very kind man and doing good work for the world.

Such a rude comment about you needing birth control. You are raising responsible young men and women.  Your husband and you should have as many children as you want and can care for since you are doing such a geat job raisng them.

Daddy and the girls

Looks like  the girls got what they wanted ....their dad's time and attention.  And mom got left out in the cold.  I only hope it was her choice to "move on" and let them "have at each other".  Erin is a smart woman and can have a very fulfilling life now that she has seen the "writing on the wall".  I respect her decesion to make a statement by not appearing on the show today.  This tells me that Erin is being "true to herself".  She "rocks" in my world!

What a difference almost 3 years make!

I must admit first off that they look great but I don't believe Erin was home holding down the fort. They never even interviewed her for a clip. They just showed small clips of her next to the pool in their yard. (Almost like she showed up for the taping and that was it). If you notice, Marty and the girls sit down to the table in the clips to eat their dinner... well where is Erin. Dr. Phil you have to let us loyal viewers know whats going on! Come on! Its obvious there is more going on here. Why didn't you even get an interview from her?

I had my daughter in July of 03 and I remember my baby being only a couple weeks old and watching clips of the new season with Erin talking about Alex's situation. Now my daughter will be 3 and Nathan will be too in the fall. Its amazing how fast time goes. I think Alexandra looks absolutely beautiful and bravo to her for her success. Marty I think you have come a long way from what I've seen. I loved watching you interact with Nathan on the tv, it was so cute. Makes me want a son so my husband can play with him too! (We have 2 girls)

Anyways, DR. PHIL UPDATE US ON ERIN!!!!

Holy cow! Jumping to conclusions. I totally thought it was strange she wasn't there but why jump to such harsh conclusions. Do you know them personally? I'd say yes because your statement above claims you know so much but if you did know them personally I take it you wouldn't be responding on this board.

Hmmm

Quote From: sewhappy56

WHAT 18 YR OLD DESERVES A $30,,000 TRUCK?! And Erin AGAIN gets the crumbs -- the saddle gift was great but was totally overshadowed by Alex's truck! Alex continues to be the center of attention.

But I do believe that Alex had a lot of the attention to begin with. Yes Marty and Erin's marriage was turblulent but from the beginning I sensed that Katherine was just a bratty teen trying to find herself. I couldn't stand the footage of her whining and how disrespectful she was to her mother. The only anger she had was that her dad paid too much attention to Alex. Yes that's sad but why push people further away from you???

Alex has overcome a lot. Yes she has had a hand up with her parents helping her out but being a teen mom isn't easy. She graduated high school, worked part time and is now in college. That is great accomplishments for someone who was destined NOT to succeed.

I think she should enjoy that truck to know end. I would and I'm not the least bit jelous. I work hard for what I have and if someone wanted to give me a handup then I would take it!
