The beach, bathing suits and vowing to get in shape -- all signs summer is approaching. Dr. Phil's guests are trying to overcome the roadblocks that keep them from their best bikini bodies. Helen hasn't worn a bathing suit since she was 12. Dr. Phil cameras follow her as she tries on bathing suits for the first time in 30 years. Hear from other women who also have issues wearing swimsuits. Next, Julie has lost 165 pounds, but her husband, Kelly, says she's not skinny enough, and he would be embarrassed if she wore a bathing suit. Kelly says he needs Julie to weigh 150 pounds. Can this marriage survive Kelly's demands? Then, Melissa is getting married in October, so she challenged her sister, Kim, to a friendly weight loss competition, but it's turned into a fierce battle. Both girls will stop at nothing to win. See the antics they use to one-up each other and sabotage each other's efforts. And, Ed wants to be a trophy husband in time for his anniversary this summer. Can he learn to say no to the foods that call his name and tempt his tummy? Plus, big surprises for the guests and audience. Find out how you can get in on the action. If you need to shed some winter weight and slim down before stepping on the beach, this show is for you! Talk about the show here.

05/26 Summer Slim

Quote From: curly25top

Well just as I suspected, everyone is bashing Kelly for treating Julie so poorly.  Yes, I agree with them but what about Julie.  Why would she stay with someone who would treat her that way.  I really get frustrated with people who put up with behavior like that.  To you and me his behavior is horrible and unacceptable.  He would be out the door in a minute.  Better yet he would have never even set foot inside the door.  Julie allows this behavior.  She is the one I am frustrated and angry with.

What are you thinking woman?!

Have you ever thought Julie may have a low self esteem.  From what I, got from the show Kelly does not give Julie any support. He just belittles her.  My husband is an a?? just like Kelly. I would love to kick him out. I don't love him like a husband, but I have a problem with co-dependice, and low self esteem.

We Can Do This

Quote From: eyecan

I'm on board.  I have the tools, need support to keep motivated and change the messages I tell myself.  Have tried diets in the past only to end up here again.  This can be different.  I will use the tools and override the messages of the past and create new ones.  Instead of thinking I know how to do this, I've done it lots of times before, I will be open to change.  Open to new philosophy.  I am ready.  Here I go!!  Talk to you all soon.
Well, I know that we can do this finally. However, I am doing this a little different. I am a Weight Watcher's member and I am following their plans and lifestyle changes, however, I am going to take in a TON of Dr. Phil's advice. Also, I am going to accomplish the eight-week exercise program for beginning exercisers. I am going to really work on this and keep reading all information that I can find on Dr. Phil's web site because I have already found his information interesting and very very true.....Anyways, here is a little about me....Last year Feb. 2005 until Nov. 2005 I had lost 44lbs on Weight Watchers ( I started at 257lbs) and then from Nov. 2005 till March 2006 I stopped going (stress, my mom is in the hospital, college...all excuses) and I had gained 23lbs back. Just in the past 9 weeks I have been up and down again. Here is how I did (Started 236 lbs)....Week 2: 231.8lbs (-4.2), WK 3: 229.6lbs (-2.2), WK 4: 230.6lbs (+1), WK 5: 231.4lbs (+.8), WK 6: 227.6lbs (-3.8), WK 7: 225lbs (-2.6), WK 8: 229.6 (+4.6), and this week 9: 225.8lbs (-3.8). As you can tell I am still having a tough time. Is there anyone out there that would like to become online support buddies?

Please Think about this

Quote From: khelifa

 Hello Dr phil

my name is habiba, I'm a new comer in canada.i miss my family very much

last few weeks, I had very hard experience.I gave birth of a little girl after a hard labour, forceps, c-section...I did not find my family who take care of me....I drawn in the post partum depression for 04 month......Now I start to feel that is mandatory to  stand up..to take care of myself, I always watch your show, it is very inspiring....you 'll notice that my english is not so good, but I try hard to undestand what  do you say..I hope  to regain my shape prior to the pregnancy... because the  bad body image lead to low self esteem and that one lead to more depression....

I was born here, and so I don't know how it feels to have no family in the country, but even different provinces can feel like a lifetime away.

Go to your Doctor, we do NOT pay per visit in Canada, our provincial medicare covers that, assuming you have your provincial medicare is active, go and talk to your doctor. Post Partum Depression is NOTHING to ignore, please,I suffered more and more with each child, my first was bad, my second, after the last three months being bedrest and forced into breastfeeding twenty four seven, was alot worse and my third, I finally smartened up and made my own choices, and spoke to my doctor BEFORE the birth, was much better, well I just want to offer my support to you, Please seek out help, your body is secondary right now to your mental well being, when you feel good about what you are doing and who you are, then the weight will come off because you will be able to focus better, if you want to talk, contact me at cuddlecat6@hotmail.com, I really would like to see an episode of Post Partum Depression, because it is STILL not being taken seriously by some of the medical community, and by the public at large, for some of us having a baby is NOT the most joyus moment in our lives, and for some, the aftermath is NOT what they expected, added to that the extra weight and stretch marks, or a critical husband, well its a wonder we have any more.

This guy doesn't seem to just be insensitive

Kelly’s attitude about weight should be the least of Julie’s worries.  Is thin his only hang-up?  Will he still love her when she is old?  What about after having a few kids?  Is he the kind of man who could stand by her if she had cancer, and God forbid lost her hair or maybe a breast?  Would he take care of her during an illness?

If his love is so conditional, he might not be the best candidate for a father. This man would be a nightmare for any child, especially for a girl.

He is a bully, and he doesn't want to get over his childishness and selfishness.

Water Aerobics and Thyroid Check

Quote From: martzmama

I just have to ask if any one has any suggestions on how i could lose my baby weight...it has been 13 months since the birth of my 2nd child...i stay home ...so when i am not watching them i am cleaning or doing  laundry....i know i will never be down to my size before my kids,, but i would love to lose the 70 pounds i gain and have yet to lose...

I'm determined too.  I've scheduled a physical to make sure I'm okay to get started.

It might be a good idea to get your thyroid levels checked if you gained that much during your pregnancy. I have a thyroid problem, and pregnancy and post-partum can throw your levels off.

I used to do water aerobics, and it was wonderful.  Most community colleges and rec programs offer them for cheap.  I found a diving school 10 minutes away from my home that has an indoor heated pool and excercize classes for a resonable cost.

I hope it goes well for you, and I won't mail you any peanut m&ms!

Sabotaging sisters

Hello there- I have never posted here, but am wondering if this is the right spot to post about the sisters on Fridays show.  Also do they actually see or read these???

I grew up with these girls, but because of moving everywhere in one state because of my dads job we lost touch.  I was so excited when I saw them- I didn'teven need to know their names or anything....  I just knew it was them.

Anyone have any ideas on where to post to find out how to get in touch with them- even via email I would be grateful!!

Thanks, Kelli

Check your Thyroid

Quote From: hltiredmom

Yea, Kelly should really keep his mouth shut. I honestly think that he believes that he is "just being honest", but that is the kind of honesty that no one really needs. My dh and I have both added on some pounds since we got married. Much of my problem is what I believe to be some type of thyroid issue or adrenal, but is not dx. I have a lot of trouble with energy, although it has gotten better in the last few months with supplements of glyconutrients, thank heavens. I used to be so tired that getting up and washing a few dishes would get me winded and I'd have to sit down and rest. Now I can manage to get chores done and have energy to play with my son. I think I still have a long way to got to be healed, but I am keeping up my regimine and hopefully will continue to get stronger. We are trying to conceive our second child and I think the weight is causing some issues with that. I am 5'4" and weight, dare I say, 163 pounds. I never in my life thought I'd ever weight that much. I know others are dealing with numbers much larger than mine, but that doesn't make me feel much different about the fat on my body. I have recently kicked the soda out of my diet. I love Coke and I sure do miss it. Now I have to kick out some other bad stuff, like the tons of sugar and carbs I love so much.

I sure hope that I can keep coming back here and stay motivated. Since kicking the soda, I have lost 1/2 pound. Not much but every little bit is a bit more than before, right? I wish you all good luck with your struggle. I am trying very hard to change my mindset to positive, but it is like trying to knock down a brick wall by banging my head against it... anyway, hope to hear all about you all.

Happy

Everyone should get their thyroid checked.  I went from a size 4 to a size 16 (before kids) and chalked it up to age, knee injury, stress, PMS, or any other remote excuse.  I kept dieting until I was down to slimfast, yogurt, and water.  I was so tired, I used to sleep all evening on the couch, and my husband would wake me when it was time to go to bed.

It turned out I had a golf-ball sized benign tumor on my thyroid.  The doctor said that my levels were within the normal range, but once the tumor and half my thyroid were removed and I started on a thyroid replacement medication, I became a new person.  I am still overweight (I am also 5'4 and somewhere in the 160's), but I can function a lot better, and I feel human being again.

Good luck!

05/26 Summer Slim

I can't believe Julie married Kelly.  Find someone who loves you for you not for who they want you to be.  If he really loves her then losing weight should be the least of his worries, he should be worried about her staying healthy.    Kelly is self centered and can't see beyond Kelly, he didn't look too fit to me!
