Are you a parent whose household is spinning out of control? Cindi says her daughter, Kristina, used to be a fresh-faced all-American beauty, but now, with seven tattoos, she looks like a freak! Cindi says that if her daughter gets inked one more time, she’ll cut her off. Then, Nancy was heartbroken when she learned her 17-year-old daughter had been keeping a devastating secret. See this teen's message about how opening up saved her life. And, when Nancy Davis was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis 14 years ago, the doctor said her life was over. She knew she had to get better for her three young sons. See her heartwarming message for anyone dealing with an illness. Then, a mom struggles with 7-year-old triplets competing to be the best! Talk about the show here.

Find out what happened on the show.

USDA Choice?

Years ago my mother threatened (jokingly) to get "USDA Choice Beef" tattooed on her derriere.  It's a good thing she didn't, because she will celebrate her 80th birthday in July.  If she had the tattoo, we'd have to add an addendum to the first tattoo.  Something like "USDA Choice Beef Jerky".

05/29 Parenting Dilemmas

Quote From: harleypie

I am the mother of three grown, level-headed boys and I cannot believe the pettiness of this topic.  There are quite a few people with tattoos, a lot of professionals, a lot of business owners,  a lot of them ex-military men and an awful lot of women as well.................there is absolutely nothing wrong with tattooes and having one doesn't make a person defensive.  That is, in my opinion is an ignorant statement to make, it's a form of art and has been around for centuries,  I personally do NOT have any, but my oldest son, Anthony, 24 yrs old has a few and incidentally is military and is being shipped to Iraq! How important would those tats be if this "young" lady were shipped to Iraq and didn't come back????  Would those tats be that important then?  I taught my kids to treat people as if it is the last time you are going to see them because you know what???  It might.  Just because something isn't to someone's liking does not mean that either person is right or wrong!    And if this "young" lady regrets these later in her life, well it was her mistake and she will be the one that deals with it, not her mother!
Yes, there are quite a few people with tatoos but is their entire body covered in them?  I think that is the major issue.  Just about anything in extreme is probably going to be questioned or judged by someone.  And teaching our children to be accepting is fine and right but teaching them, also, that the world isn't always that way is just as important.  (You missed the "defensive" part in that many of the comments are from those with tatoos and they feel they have to defend their decision.  If they were entirely comfortable with it, they would brush it off and go on.)

I find it unappealing for tatooing. I honestly think everyone has there own opinion.  I personally think that tatooing has been over rated.  I have no tatoo's and never will.  My personal belief is that we were created in the image of God and our bodies is his temple.  Would we graffiti God's church walls?  I just feel that it isn't ok for me or my girls but if you chose to do so I won't stand in your way.  I just think beauty comes from within self and not by the outerly appearance.  I sometimes wonder if people who get tatoo's don't feel accepted as who they are without the pictures on their bodies.  Again this is only my opinion.  I wouldn't treat anyone different who has tatoo's because their beliefs are different from mine.
Hello?????   Have you ever seen the Sistine Chapel?  Michelangelo's paintings?  Would you consider them graffiti or works of art?  I say works of art.  And so are tattoos.  They don't destroy the temple of God (your body) that God gave you.  They just decorate it.  Lighten up everybody.

Dr Phil....our society isn't anywhere near as stuffy as you are

Our society isn't anywhere near as tatphobic as Dr Phil would suggest.  There are so few people who don't have one or judge those who do, that section of the show was pretty much moot.  Get real Dr. Phil and join the rest of the world please.  Most of us aren't anywhere near as conservative as you are.

05/29 Parenting Dilemmas

Quote From: ltesner

I know the studio I went to was and is clean because it is sanctioned by the North Carolina Health Department and held under strict guidelines. Any person wanting a tattoo should make sure that where they go is properly licensed and they can even inquire to the Health Department about any complaints filed against any tattoo studio. I don't consider tattoos that mean something to a person, as mine does, as ugly or defacing of one's body, but everyone is entitled to their opinion. I can honestly say that I have received far more positive and appreciative comments then negative ones when my tattoo is noticed. And by the way..I didn't get my first tattoo until I was 30 years old so I hardly think I was acting like a 15 year old, especially since I don't know too many tattoo studios that would ink a 15 year old.
Kudos to you! I like your photo!

My day your day for multiples

I have 7 year old identical twin girls.  They came up with the my day, your day and it works so well and it keeps me from showing favoritism.  I write it on the calendar so if we forget whose day it is we can go to the calendar and get back on track.  If it is your day, you get your hair brushed first, you get to choose what we wear (if we are going out and Mom wants us to wear the same outfit), you get to get the mail, you can pay when we go to McDonalds, they get to pick the game piece, you get to say prayers first with Mom and Dad etc.  I only dress them alike now when we go out somewhere special.  We wear uniforms to school so they are dressed alike at school, but even if we go out and they are not dressed alike people still ask me, are they twins? They are identical so it is not just the clothes that let people know they are twins. Thank God for multiples!!

05/29 Parenting Dilemmas

I have MS and I totally disagree with Nancy's doctor telling her that life as she knew it was over.  I was alos diagnosed with MS 14 years ago.  I still walk and talk and get on with my life. You have to learn to live with it.  Take one day at a time and listen to your body.  ............Also, that mom going crazy over her daughters getting tattoos.......if thats thats all you got to worry about then thank your lucky stars.      About 5 years after i got diagnosed with MS I had 3 children , 2 of whom are autistic.  Now my husband and I are dealing with that also!!   LIfe is not playing poker and hoping for a good hand........its playing with lousy cards and winning the hand anyway!!

Our voice must be heard

Quote From: queenpatt

Hi everyone I just had to get on here and say I am not the only one Thank you Dr. Phil for letting me know that I am not the only person that has been destoryed by this kind of action. I was married to a man for 10 years and when I had a stroke and couldn't perform my wifely duties he started slipping around with my daughter getting her drunk and using her she became a acholic and now suffers from liver diease and he kicked her out after he married her because she got sick. It is hard to deal with this and it is hard to be with her but we try he is now out of the picture but sometimes I feel so much love for this man that itis ruining my present marriage and i don't know how to fix it.

he was a wonderful man for 8 of those years ,I feel that I let him down........

Sexual abuse is happening way too much, by teacher,s coaches, counseller, church goers, the so called civil society, what's wrong with the system? These people get months probation and hardly any jail time at all because the prosecution needs more hard evidence. We are scared for life, we will never be ok...survivors must come together and draw strength, unit and get the law changed..preverts are to be jailed, for life, the victims get a life sentence of the horrible ordeal the molester deserves the worst...
