Hi Friday

Quote From: rolfecne

Hi Char,

So happy for you that you lost all that weight. I think if I ever lost all that I would think I had a new lease on life.

How long did it take you to lose all that. I know if I could lose I think my husband also, would try to lose some. we both have a long way to go. I guess I should think about losing 10 pounds and then work from there. When you think too much it gets a little depressing.

Thanks for writing,

God Bless

Friday

I lost the orginal very quickly as I changed my lifestyle and added exercise.   I started with Dr. Phil back in Nov 2003.   It took about 9 months to lose 80 pounds.  Pretty good since I didn't have the staff and did it on my own.   But I found myself with loose skin,  flabby muscles and no tone.  So I backed off on trying to lose more and focused on toning up, building firm muscles etc.  Again I didn't have professional staff or  I might have been doing better exercises from the start.

Also I think I just didn't believe that I would keep off the weight since I had not dieted and didn't do any of that stuff (count calories, carbs etc)  Just did what the keys showed me.    Well I got off track last year by allowing myself to be lead by a group that wasn't good for me.  It made me put too much empathsis on food and I just stopped losing and in doing so lost patience with myself.

Now after 10 months I realise that I need to do what I need to for myself.  I lost 15 more pounds and am aiming at the 100 pound point.  I do it 10 pounds at a time, one day at a time.  Hubby along the way also lost 60 and is maintaining it.  Doesn't do intentional exercise but he does ride bike with me sometimes and he works on his feet walking all day.  But our eating habits have changed so much.  And it effects so much more.  Lower food bills, more energy, better overall health for both of us and I know that I can lose the next 50 pounds over the next year.  See I no longer think I have to do it overnight.

Support is the most important part!!  Good support.  So keep posting.

Dear Sarah

Quote From: lovey77

Hi. I am a 17 year old girl and I currently weigh a little over 300 pounds. I hate it and its a constant weight on my self esteem. I have been overweight all my life and I am bombarded by obesity on both sides of my family. Over the years I have tried excercise and watching what I eat but somehow always linger back to the old way of life. I excersiced for a whole summer and lost about 40 pounds but this habit lead into an eating disorder that I have continued to struggle with. Right now I am at the highest weight I have ever been and long to be thinner. Its so hard to get outside and walk...I have tried that.  I live in Oregon and now its rainy, not fun to walk in. I want to get a gym membership that I know I would use but dont know that I can afford it. Ultimatley my mind goes to gastric bypass which I know isnt totally safe and isnt the way out. I look at it though as something that will help to get to where I want to be. I desperatley want this. I want to lose all this weight and feel like I am alive. In this body right now, I am numb and feel like a zombie at times. I dont know, this is always on my mind. Any comments are helpful!

Wow what a post coming from such a young girl.  But I can relate, I was always on the heavy side but not obese so figured I could worry about it later in life. I'm happy that you want to do something about it now.    But I'm not so sure surgery is what you really want.    Nor do you need anymore eating disorders.

Do you have Dr. Phil's Book?  Maybe the Teen's book by his son would be more helpful as I'm sure you still have many teen issues.   You can do this.  Find a support group-online/local or even keep coming here and  posting.   If there is a YMCA in your town-start there.  They offer financial assistance.  Sometimes a doctor's slip will help you in that as well.    At our Y they also have discounted memberships for teens.  Just a couple ideas to get you started.

Please post how you are doing.  I care.

Thyroid

Quote From: ndlamb31

Hello, my name is Jennifer. I am a 31 year old mother of four small children.  When I had my last child, I had my tubes tied.  From there my thyroid went out.  I gained so much weight  in such a small amount of time it was rediculious.  I now weigh 228.  It has taken my doctors 7 months to get my levels in order.  I went to the doctor today for my  blood test results and found out I am where I am supposed to be.  I am currently taking armour thyroid and I am stuck at 228.  I am so depressed.  I was told by my doctor that when I got leveled out my weight would practically fall off.  I am so heavy right now, it hurts to stand and do my house work.  I am so depressed when I see myself, I cry.  I have never been this big before and I don't think I can handle it much longer.  Is there anybody out there with the same problem who can give me some tips and ideas.  To let you know, I am not an overeater.  I barely have an appetite.  I try to walk and exercise but get so tired that I quit.  I try to eat all the right things and nothing works.

Hi,

You are still very young, and I would focus on myself. I have a thyroid problem, that really went wacky, that I almost died. I lost 44 lbs in two weeks, and the doctors could not find what was wrong with me. I was happy that i lost that weight but, not knowing why is scary. Let alone the rapid changes my body went thru. Finially a doctor who was a gyn immediately told me what was wrong.

They got my thyroid to a level, and I am still on synthroid. But my weight sky rocketed and now I am so overweight. I know the feeling that you are feeling now, as I also, get depressed when looking in a mirror, and also, getting so tired from the extra weight. I also do not eat that much which is what really depresses oneself. You are young and that helps losing weight better, because as we get older it harder to lose weight. I have tried doing leg excersize in bed. It has helped, this way you are off your feet. Seems funny when you are overweight you should excersize, but it is hard to do when you are overweight. Try walking a little each day. and as the days pass you will be able to go a little further and a little further. You can write to me if you wish. Maybe we can support each other.

You are never alone out there. I myself am obese. I'm not proud of what I look like, and there is no magic cure. We have to move more and eat less. I'm taking a water exercize class and in the five weeks have lost 2 in. off the arms and 1 in. off the hips, thighs, and waste. I weighed 380 when I started this and haven't gotten on any scales to see if I have lost . You build muscle when you start exercizing and it will make you put on some weight, but muscle burns fat. My cousin had gastric bypass done and is happy with herself. She didn't have any complications, and was a lucky. Take care of you A.

Wow, I am a 30 year old  mother of 4 and weight 267 pounds. Right now I am a full-time college student in my third semester of a two year program. I will graduate in May of 2006. I guess I can say that IF I graduate, it will be the only accomplishment in my life. I do have four children but I am a horrible mother to them. Because I feel horrible about myself and frustrated with the fact that I can't make myself lose weight I take it out on them. I yell, well SCREAM alot. I hate the person that I am outside and it is transforming me into a monster. I have begged other people to take my children and raise them so that I can hide in my house, watch t.v. all day, and just die of obesity. I feel that death is my only way out because everything else I have tried has gotten me nowhere. I have even emailed Dr.Phil. Someone called me interested in what I had to say but I did not receive a call back. I am very excited for the people that he has helped but I just wish that I could be one of them. I am afraid of what may happen some day in my desperation of wanting to be thin. My biggest fear is passing the mindset onto my children and my 10 year old is already saying he needs to lose a few pounds...he's 5'1 and 90 pounds. UGH! Mandolynn

Desperate for a Change

I am forty-five years old and almost all of my life I have been overweight until the last couple of years I have become obese.  I am about 5'5" and I weight about 207.  I have tried all of the diets and I am desperate for a change in my life.  I wish there was an answer to the misery I have been feeling.  I know there isn't any EASY WAY TO OVER COME THIS.  I would like it if I could here some good suggestions from those who have seemed to found their way through.  Thank you for reading my entry.

Quote From: today140

I have been over weight my whole life, in fact my goal weight 140, I have not been that weight since the 4th grade. Stories like yours inspire me to keep going. The only thing I worry about is, I have heard alot of people who have lost alot of weight have had problems with loose skin.  Do you or any one here know how to prevent that from happening?

Hi ckush and inlove

I would suggest that you look for the book and read it if you haven't already.   This works if you are truely ready to put yourself first and do what you need to.   Start slow and do the things in the book.  This is not a diet--as so many of us know Diets don't work.  You may lose but then once they end, the weight comes back and usually brings more with it.  I know-did the diets for 20 years and just kept getting closer to the 300 mark--yikes I would say and find the newest diet fad.  Well lots of time, energy and MONEY gone but I just kept inching back up each time.

Then I heard Dr. Phil say that diets don't work -duh I knew that.   But that you could lose weight if you knew why you were overweight (for me I was obese)  and why you  stayed that way.  That if you stopped dieting and changed your lifestyle you could get to the weight you should be.   WOW  I thought,  I would try anything.  Afterall nothing else worked and I was ready to do what it took to finally get my good health back.  Ofcourse when I heard all this I was flat on my back in the ICU at the local hospital.   In the first week after getting out of there I got his book, watched the WLC shows and started doing what his book said.

No I didn't have his staff of nutritionists, trainers or him personally to lead me but I had that book, I could read.  I read on his website, found some online support and eventually a live group as well.  Then Before I knew it I was feeling so much better and the weight was going away.  Now almost 100 pounds less of me is enjoying life with a hubby who is also 60 pounds down with just the changes in our lifestyle.  Never figured this 58 yr old who couldn't walk down the drive without losing her breath, couldn't climb stairs would be riding a bike again.  YEP I bought a bike and rode it all over the campground this summer.     I still have 50 to lose but am in no great hurry as I'm toning and building muscle as I go.  Feeling younger instead of older.  You can do this also.

Keep posting and find some support!!
