I'm with you.  I had the surgery too, and it changed my life.  I lost 140 pounds, over two years ago.  Since then I went to community college and graduated with straight A's, and am currently studying at a University!  Just for fun, I'm even taking a ski class!!!

I was real lucky in that my HMO (Healthnet), covered everything.

I was obese for the last 20 years and I now feel like I've been released from prison.  So, everyone out there, you CAN overcome that horrible weight trap.  You CAN change your life.  It can be done!  Don't give up!

How about Lap-Band?

Quote From: yknotsleep

I am a morbidly obese woman at the wonderful age of 50.  I was losing weight starting in 2003 (depression after the death of my older sister).  This continued until 2006 when I had the joy (?) of needing a complete hyterectomy.  After the surgery it was discovered that I had developed a hernia which I wanted removed.  The surgeon refused until I lost at least 200 lbs.  I began going to a gastric bypass class, preparing for that surgery, but found that the information they provided simply did not give me convidence in their proceedures (Kaiser Permanente).  I therefore left the class, have regained the weight I had lost while attending the class and believe that both the hernia & I are simply getting bigger and bigger.

I have so very many other illnesses that I will not even begin to list them except to say that 2 of them are epilepsy and diabetes.  I take about 14 different medications twice a day.  Believe me, I am not a happy camper  All I can say is HELP!!

Why don't you try Lap-Band surgery?  It isn't invasive like gastric bypass.  They just put a Lap-Band at the top of your stomach instead of cutting half your stomach away.  Here is the link:  LAP-BAND® - Home

Obesity

I'm 32 336 lbs. I would give almost anything to be able to get surgery. I know it is not the easy way out by no means. But I have no insurance to even fight to cover it. How much does the lap band surgery cost verses the by pass?

help yourself first

Quote From: handmaiden

I'm 41 year old, Married I have 1 child a 6 year old daughter, I weigh over 300 lbs. And my daughter weighs over 100 lbs. I used to have an night mares when she was a infant that she would be crying wanting a Hershey bar I had in my hand and I would say no, no, no, baby I cant give it to you I don't want you to be fat like mommy, I would not give her cakes, cookies, nothing sweet or fattening then she went in for her 2 yr check up the Dr told me she was under weight I thought to my self "OH MY GOSH I AM DEPRIVING MY DAUGHTER BE CAUSE OF MY FEARS" I had mixed emotions so I started letting her have the cookies and cakes then she started sneaking in the refrigerator and I caught her sticking her hand in the butter and eating it plain, then the mayo, and peanut butter she had learned how to disable the alarm on the refrigerator I'm so worried about her I don't know if she is still sneaking in the refrigerator but I do know she claims she is hungry all the time I wish there was a way I could get her to understand but how can I do that when I don't understand and I do the same thing well, I don't stick my hand in the butter ha but I do over eat, I thought I did not have a problem till now. I have tried and it is just to hard I try walking my feet hurt so bad I cant stand it  I know some of it is the heal spur I am getting so stressed there are other things in my life and with it all it makes me crazy my mind don't work rite no more it has got to the point I am wondering if I am getting Alzheimer  I just cant function I know I should go to the DR but I cant afford it when I wake up in the morning I cant hardly move my bones and muscles hurt so bad I am the biggest I have ever been I have known energy I cant even clean my house I am in pain all the time I don't want my daughter to go threw this I am so scared and afraid it is to late for me but how can I help my daughter? Well, that is were I am now.
Hey,

You're story is sounding all too familiar to me only I was the daughter in that situation.  Have you ever been on a plane, and during the safety training where they show you how to use your seatbelt and put on the oxygen mask if it becomes necessary, they tell you to put on your own mask first before helping young children with theirs? I think that applies here to. You need to get yourself to a counselor, to a nutritionist, to whatever it takes to get yourself back on track, to make sure you aren't sinking. That is the best thing you can do for your daughter. If you try to control and micromanage your daughter's eating for her, and lecture her about her weight and her eating habits she's just going to end up with low self esteem and body hatred and not feeling like it's her own body she's living in, or that she has any ability to make her own decisions. Lead by example. Keep healthy foods around the house and try to get to a place where you can be positive about your own body image and health. Get the help you need. And it will help your daughter; I promise.

Lap Band verses the Gastric Bypass

I had the gastric bypass surgery done.  The cost is about $20,000 depending on where you get it done.  I know the Lap Band surgery costs less (I heard about half).  Some doctors will cut you a break on the expense if you don't have insurance.  You just have to find the right doctor.  Just make sure you get a doctor who isn't a quack.  Get one who has been doing the surgery for years with a high success rate.  Make sure you ask a lot of questions and ask to see the doctors  track record.  Don't be afraid to ask questions and to check your doctor out.  I asked my doctor before I had my surgery "How many gastric bypass surgeries have you done and how many people have you lost due to the surgery?"  She said, she lost 2 patients out of 800!  I thought that was really good so I choose her to do my surgery.  Homework and research is the key to finding the right doctor and the right surgery for you.  I wish you the best of luck.  If you would like to talk one on one you can email me at bsbinlaf@yahoo.com

my bumpy road, dieing to be thin.

my over weight problem been in and out of my life for 37 years. Every singel day is a struggel for me. When i go to bed i think how my day was and i see all the misstakes i made by over eating junk foods and i tell my self , tomorrow is a different day and i'll do better. Well the next morning comes and i'm suddenly worried am i going to do well this day or am i going to mess up this new day by over eating junk foods? I do try to avoid junk foods and wasted calories, but i'm really weak towards those kinds of foods. I sometimes feel that sence i workout at the gym everyday that i might could get away with eating junk foods because i could always burn off those calories. Well that doesn't work either. I've been workingout at the gym for 4 months already and i'm still at the same weight. So now where do i go and what path do i go down now. I'm also a diet pill junky. I love any diet pills. I spent thousands of dallars on diet pills and some worked and some didn't work. If i kept taking them maybe i won;t be struggeling with my weight now?  Right now i found a drink that i feel works like a diet pill. It's red bull. I drink red bull all throughout the day and i notice that i really don't want to eat much or at all. Good i found something new. As long as there are pills or drinks i could take to help me control my eating then i feel i have no choice. Is there something wrong with that? Is there people out there that are like me? I hate fat and i hate being fat. I feel i need to lose 100 pounds, but thats just me, other people say maybe 40 or 50 pounds is enough for me if that. I'm wondering am i being to hard on myself. I sometimes feel that there is a name for my story, "dieing to be thin". I do anything to be thin even if it's risking my life by taking so much pills and drinks. If anyone can relate to me, please respone back. I need some feed back.

Please be so very careful when taking diet pills.  My sister took diet pills for years and ended up in the hospital one day and almost died.  Now the doctors say she has a heart condition and it is due to taking so many diet pills over several years.  Be care, even when drinking the red bull drink, it's just speeds up the heart also which can cause heart damage.  Believe me when I say  I know what you're going through. I use to weigh about 265 for 20 years and am finally getting my life back on track.  Every day is still a struggle for me also but with the doctors help, I'm making it.  Maybe you should contact a weight loss specialist, it can only help.   Working out at the gym is a good thing.  I wish I was more like you when it comes to that!  I wish you the very best.

Lap Band Surgery

Has anyone had Lap Band Surgery or even considered it? I am in the process of doing all the paper work to get it started. I attended a seminar and got a lot of good information, my Insurance provider will cover the entire process of this however I have to find an Independent Phychologist on my own and get an evualation. Wonder what they will be asking or looking for?
