Diet

Quote From: vikiniki

The last 5 weeks have been awful.  I cant stop eating.  Ive had no energy to exercise and Ive gained 10 pounds.  Considering I had only lost about 15 pounds to begin with, Im almost back to where I started over 4 months ago!  Im so disappointed in myself.  It all started on October 7th when my family came over for a day of fun and since then Ive eaten: 1 bag of mini Hershey bars, 1 bag of mini Milky Way bars, 1 bag of candy corn, 1 container of peanuts, 1 jar of peanut butter, and 1 bag of marshmallows.  I guess I should be happy I only gained 10 pounds!  So Im back on the wagon as of today.

My stomach isnt used to being deprived anymore and its growling now even though Ive had over 900 calories so far.  But I am not digging into that bowl of candy still sitting on my desk.  I wonder if my boss would be mad if I just threw the rest away?

I have the outfit I wore 3 New Years Eves ago hanging up and I plan on using that as motivation.  Whether it fits or not I'll have to wear it because its not in my budget to buy anything new and I'm not wearing any "fat clothes".

I have all kinds of things to watch on tape and DVDs so I dont have any excuses not to exercise.  I even enjoy reading on my elliptical, but I dont get as good a work out that way, but Ive done it.

My goal now is to lose 20 pounds by my birthday in January.  I dont think Ill make it, but Im giving it a try.  Two pounds a week isnt do-able in my opinion.  But Im determined not to let Thanksgiving and Christmas put me off track again.

Is there any safe appetite suppressant that actually works on the market?  I was flipping through stations a while back and saw Tyra Banks and a bunch of models gushing over some weight loss pill.  It was nice to know that they aren't naturally perfect, but they must have only said the name of the product once, and I missed it.

Hello, I just went to the doctor yesterday and in the last year I've gained back the 20 pounds that I lost. I did it somewhat the right way but my problem is once I lose it I slowly get off track and start eating again. I love fried foods, chips, popcorn, basically any kind of carb. The reason I'm replying is when I lost my weight last year I did weight watchers and was on the diet pill adapex(sp?) the first couple of months the diet pill didn't work but I figured out that I was just in the mind set ok I'm using a diet pill so I can eat and still lose weight not so. I then started thinking as I was eating. Ok I'm full I need to stop. I know that is common sense but before it took alot more food to get me full. I don't know if you can get a doc to give you a perscription but maybe its worth a try. I know this pill hasn't worked for everyone but it did for me. if you have more questions you can email me @ caysi-brooks-swol@hotmail.com I check my email alot more than I go to this website.

Diet

Quote From: ramair

In my opinion, unless you're hungry for the snacks, there's probably no harm in not eating them. Many nutritionists recommend eating five or six times a day, three small meals and two or three snacks, to keep blood sugar at a steady level and prevent hunger that could lead to cravings and binging. You do need at least 1200 calories a day to keep your body and brain functioing properly and your metabolism from slowing down, no matter how many times you eat. If you can get your 1200 calories from three regular meals, the snacks probably aren't necessary. Or, you could eat a little less for your meals so you'll be hungry for a snack or two. Just do whatever works best for you.
I know you posted this message quite sometime ago but I just joined this site. Anyway I just went to see my doc yesterday about my weight gain. She is a dietician(sp) anyway she wants me to focus on only eating app 1200 calories a day. You know the whole routine snacks and small meals anyway I asked her about the snack thing, I wanted to not do the snacks if I was not hungry and just eat more at lunch etc. She said the reason the snacks are so important is for our metabolism. If we want to lose weight we have to keep that going. If we focus on small snacks (100 calories) then that will keep our metab up.

Diet

Quote From: c022098

ok I have a question when you were at 180 how many calories did you app take in a day. I just went to my doc I am 5-11, 171 pounds she told me to not have more than 1200 calories a day. YUCK.  Anyway I'm definately going to try it. She explained the whole snack thing etc. Do you have any ideas for lunch and supper. I'm only allowed 300 for lunch and 500 for supper. Any great fast food places besides subway and grilled salads? I just don't want to get bored. I have been on and off diets since I was 18 and know I get bored easy. I love carbs, fried foods, chips and I know I've got to get that out of my head.
1200 cals a day. If you love carbs, fried foods and other, just stop one for a couple of weeks then move on to another, don't quit everything at the same time, you will fail. Subway is not healthy what so ever!! Did you know the salads at mc d. is full of surgar, yes, surgar!!! I'll get back to you for some good recepies, that are easy to make and healthy!!

Diet

I am really hoping that this time I will be able to stick with a diet. I am going to watch what I eat and work out. It has been hard to stick with a diet. The only diet I did really good was Weight Watchers at my job and my husband was doing it with me then he stopped and it went down hill after that. I am having a hard time getting him to understand that I cant eat like him and loose weight and he doesnt seem to care. I need to loose 69 pounds.

Diet???=gaining back!!!

No diet in the world will work!! It should be a life change, not a diet. A diet will work for the time being, but as soon as you go back to reality, you will gain all the weight back. You all should just go trhu your cupboards and throw out all junk food and replace it wilth healthy clean foods, wash and cut up some good veggies and refregerate them,(so they are ready to eat when a hunger attacks) Buy some healthy protein(fish, poultry, turkey, lean red meats) Change you white stuff to whole wheat, use no more sauces, use herbs instead, cut out the surgar and salt(use real salt instead, not the table kind) stop drinking juices, drink water instead, switch from 2-1%milk to skim milk, eat 5-6 small meals a day, that way you don't get hungry and binge eat, I have to say it again DRINK WATER, DRINK WATER, DRINK WATER!!!!! exercise atleast 30 a day. Do all this, and I garantee a weight loss!

ps. if you can, try to count your cals in one day, you should not go over 1800 cal a day, also read labels, if you cannot pronounce it don't eat it!!!

Good luck to all!!

Hopeful

Good morning and happy new year to all........success and good health.

I am Bernice from Ontario, Canada.  I bought Dr Phil's WLSolution book and am reading it very slowly.  It does take absorbing.  Its hard to get through the steps without some real soul searching.

As with so many of us there has been lots of stuff in my life that i am not responsible for but i blame my self.   And of course many things i wish i had done differently.   All this self imposed guilt is very much a problem with self image.  My self image is really bad.

I cant seem to read much of the book at once, as you would a good novel.  There have even been times that i am very much aware of when i am reading something that is painful and sparks memories and i just put it down.  I would love to hear from people who are reading the book or those who have come through it.  He writes as though he is in the room next to me speaking to only me.

I agree with all my heart that there is no diet that works.........I know, i have tried everything and then some.

Most of your recommendations are good. However there is no salt that is more 'real' than any other salt. All salt is either left from prehistoric ocean deposits or made by dehydrating existing salt water. Although there is some extra mineral in the evaporated sea water salt you would have to eat two tablespoons to get the nutrition found in a single grape.

Calorie counting works for some. For others I think it's better to view your life in terms of positives - I CAN eat this and this and this [[rather than 'I can't eat that'.]

I definitely recommend exercise. Yoga has made a different woman of me. And the transformation of my body through yoga inspired me to start making healthy food choices. I'd never go back now.
