It;s Friday, Keep Motivated

I'm truly wondering if I will be down the 2 pounds by Sunday. I could have done better this week though I've done fairly well. So much of it has to do with managing stress, keeping active and recognizing hunger.

That is awesome! I am just starting out with trying to lose weight and have decided to keep an online journal of, well, my journey. I've been doing it for a little over a week, so far so good. But I'm not stupid - I do know there will be tough times ahead. Reading stories like yours is really inspiring to me and gives me the motivation I need. Do you know of any online support groups? Again, that is awesome that you are so close to your goal! I know I don't know you, but I know what it's like, and I'm proud of you and hope to one day be where you are at - satisfied. Thank you again for the inspiration.

Hello bluestar

What a neat  user name and  icon.
I'm a former 50lb "loser" that hasn't been here for awhile. I've been struggling with redefining my life again since about last January, and so fell into some bad old patterns and gained back about 30 lbs over the last year or so. My youngest has now graduated from high school and my days of being an active mother are officially over. I know that doesn't sound so bad to others, and I'm pretty sheepish about letting it get to me, but there it is. I also found out that my thyroid is sluggish, and some support in the way of vitamin supplements has helped me get over feeing so "what's the use" down and self-pitying.
This is a picture from the top of Gray's Peak in Colorado. My husband and I climbed it last year and would like to "do" another this year. I need to not only ditch the extra weight but put on some muscle to make it enjoyable and not torture. There's no point in doing a climb if you don't get that charge out of it. It's grueling to say the least.
So my work is cut out for me. Do you have any goals linked to your weight loss?

17 pounds is a little over 10% of what you weighed before, so it was a substantial amount for you. The rate at which you lose weight tends to slow down the closer you get to your goal weight . Don't get discouraged, it's natural. If you hit a full blown plateau, it might be time to vary the routine. Whatever you're doing for exercise, try something different or add in periodic spurts of intense activity. Like, if you walk or jog, add in short spurts of running at your top speed for a minute or so at a time.
Another thing to consider is the amount you are eating. You may be getting enough food to maintain this weight level, it may be time to shave a few calories. It usually doesn't take very much, so experiment. The goal is to keep getting enough foods so you're not feeling tired or put your body into starvation mode, which stops all weight loss for awhile.

How Great To See Activity On The Board

I also love the Colorado peak and its symbolism as regards climbing over the obstacles we encounter. We all notice that during times of great change and transition, tremendous stress and whatever, how we fall backwards in winning at this game called being real about weight. We were programed that way and we have to face it all the time and more so when we go through major stuff as in your youngest graduating high school. Still, I can see in you as in myself and many others that post on these boards, the reluctance to give it all back...all we've worked for like that sense of pride in our bodies, at least in our clothes, and we've worked on building healthier habits. My latest obstacle is a job change to something much more challenging and stressful. I've begun to make a little progress lately in adjusting to it and lost 2 and 1/2 pounds.

You asked what my goals are linked to my weight loss and the first one is once again liking how I look in clothing. (After 50 I'm not going to put the same pressure on myself naked :). Another goal is losing the weight I gained since reaching maintenance which as of the last time I got on the scale, is a mere 11 and 1/2 pounds away.  I would also like to keep up my strength and work out a little more consistently, although I do exercise and enjoy it.  I am pleased to make your acquaintance.

Darling we all have our figure flaws and 17 pounds down is something to be very proud of. Please go and do something nice for yourself today or tomorrow that does not involve eating.

Not Much Movement Here

It's sad to see that the small group of people that touched base last week has stopped posting, at least for a while. I am doing OK on my program, having uped my exercise a bit and lessoned my food intake. Hoping you're all OK, I will check back another time.Keep going for it and stay connected.
