Deb, I completely understand!

Quote From: aspiemom1

My son will be 11 yrs in another month.  He has Aspergers & ADHD.  I homeschool him so I am with him all of the time and my husband is often away from home so I seldom get a break.

Lately my son has been having less emotional control and more anxiety and it is frustrating me because I can't seem to help him with this.  He is crying over every "little" thing, has mood swings, easily frustrated, and his stuttering has become much worse.  His fears seem worse right now and I lose my patience after a while.

Can anyone relate to what I'm going through?

Deb

I have a 9 year old son who hasn't been diagnosed with anything other than emotional/angxity disorder, but the more I hear about this Aspergers , I think he might have that or something like it! Anyways as far as you losing your patience I totally get that!! As BAD as I feel for my son and what he has to go though every day, I find myself becoming overwhelemed, not knowing what to do!!? Today is the first day I even knew there where other kids like my Kristian! All I can say is , Hang in there! Take care of your self. Sherrie

Just not knowing where to go to get help for my son!?

I have a 9 year old son who has problems since before he was here! He wasn't supposed to even be here! He has overcome pretty much everthing they "the doctors" said he wouldn't! Even though he's been sick throughout his little life, he's always fought to get better, and prove them wrong! But throughtout his school life he's had continuious problems! Emotional and a lot of angxitiy! He's not that bad at home but it's a differant story in the classroom! He's had all the iep, and the evaluations the school can do and we have no insurance and my husband makes to much money ($200.00) to much! to get any help from the state or the federal goverment! Any suggestions?

Hi i don't know what sort of problems your son has overcome. But is there no special funds there for needy children?I know here in Canada they do have special funds for say like downs, or any mentally handicapped or such pyhsical disabilities.Do they not have money for diabled there?can you check with your local health departtment sorry if not much help.I am so glad your son has overcome what the Dr's never expected him to do. i have written here about my sister inlaw somewhere here back a couple of pages or so maybe more now. They do not recieve disable because her hubby is to proud for that what an asshole! take care .I truly hope you can find some resoluation.Another thing you know you can email the show here and ask for resources.did you check out what was offered for this board if there was anything?sometimes they put resource names at front of boards.I willcheck to see if there is any and will let you know if i find any. take care god bless.cathy

Multiple disorders

Hello. I too have two children - boys almost 9 and 7.5 with bi-polar, adhd, capd, and now abnormal eegs. I also have a daughter who is 2, but not talking. She is going in for an evaluation. At this point she does not seem to have the type of problems the boys have.

So far we had Medicaid off and on (New Mexico), but being divorced and a disabled vet, I earn to much, despite I can't work, to qualify for state medical for them. And paying for insurance and co-pays just isn't funny in out situation, is it!?!?!

I have been doing more of my own research, inlcuding reading the book by the Dr. Dr. Phil had on, and looking into non-prescription alternatives.

I am now homeschooling as well. This is a first for me. We had IEP's up the wall for both of my boys. By second son has speech apraxia and is still hard to understand by most people;even me some times. I thought of relocating and putting them in a school (4hrs away) that would help them out, but it costs $8,000 a yr per child. I don't know if that is worth the cost or not. I still think about it.

In the public school my 9 yr old isn't even working at 1st grade level. I figured I would give it a go. If it works good. If not, then I Imay look more into a specialized school.

I looked into state waivers as well. When you put in for one and do all the massive paperwork, there is still a 5 yr WAIT. That is for medical help, (Medicare/caid), or in home help like respite.

Being single I understand the need for being away for a while and despite that my ex is VERY helpful, he too has Bi-Polar, can't work, and can't handle being in our home for too long of periods. Even though he is here popping in several times a day, it is more to talk with me, flirt, etc. than playing with the kids, which he doesn't seem able to do. (He came from a very multple abusive home.)

I lately have gotten very angry, resentful, grouchy, loud, and yelley, but I am working on it with my counselor, and Dr. Phil books! :)

I have a 9 year old son whos been dealing with many health issues since he was born! He's always had a hard time in school but it just seems to be getting worse every day! I feel the same helplessness you do. All I want for him is to have a "normal" life! He is so emotional at school! He's not as bad at home! For whatever reason my husband isn't very understanding about anything our son is going through!! Try and take care of yourself and remember your not alone! Sherrie

Does your son have an IEP or 504 plan??

He may qualify for one or the other under emotioal impairment.

If you do not have this and need some ino let me know.

I have a 9 year old son that is getting out of control.....Last year he started to get angry and refuse to go to school......He would take off running threw our pasture and we would have to track him down and when we caught up with him would physically have to put him into the car to bring him back.....Each time it happened it got worse......He ended up being in hospital for 4 days for evaluations after he physically hit a police officer who was trying to help us get him under control......he would curse spit hit kick etc.......The hospital told us after a catscan that he has small cyste on his brain but nothing to worry about.....I am still concerned .........He has been to conciling and one says he tested positive for adhd and another says no.......We tried him on two different medicines , and the first made him worse and the second he kept saying he wanted to kill himself , so now i took him off of them......The summer was great, no trouble out of him at all ........Now school is back in and its been two weeks......he has been absent from school 4 days already and I have had to pick him up 3 times already for his behavior cursing spit at the prinicpal......I am beside myself and don't know what to do or why he is acting like this.......Please help.......I need some advice or guidance through this.......He is really a great kid, but something is going on with him that i just cannot seem to get through to him to find out

THe reason I ask this is because if he is an in fact he is not ADHD but may be bipolar the meds could be making him worse.

Please check out the website

www.bpkids.org and ask your question there. It is a parent run website and has alot of useful info.

My daughter is bipolar and acts the same way out of school she is for th emost part fine but at school it is awful

If you need any more info let  me know.

I forgot to add that a lot of bipolar children are misdiagnosed with ADHD or similar illnesses.
